Web panel stealing focus while typing in main window
-
While typing in a text box in the main window or even the address field, the side panel I have opened would steal focus. I have to click back in the main window many times to finish my typing.
I begin noticing this problem since Vivaldi 2.0. It has continue to be a problem in the 2.1 update.
It does not happen all the time, but it happened frequently enough to be very annoying.
Windows 10 64-bit, Vivaldi 2.1.1337.36 (Stable channel) (32-bit), single keyboard shortcut on.
Active Extensions : Adguard, AutoplayStopper, Enhancer for YouTube, Google Docs Offline, Inbox by Gmail, Print Edit WE, Privacy Badger, Window Resizer.
Web Panels : 2 Inbox, Google Keep, Out of Milk, Google Calendar, Google Hangouts, Inoreaders, Google News, Google Search, Time.is, ClickView

In case you are able to reproduce, please report a bug and post the bug number (VB-99999) here for our follow up
-
@thangcuoi do you use the Stylus extension? if yes, try to disable it (or use a private window/temporary profile)
-
@lamarca Unfortunately, it's not something I can replicate each time.
Right now, as I'm typing this in the main window with the Out of Milk web panel open, items in the panel are being highlighted and sometime cross out.
A moment ago, while typing in the Out of Milk web panel, the main window would constantly steal focus.
@derDay I do not have the Stylus extension installed.

I have experienced this as well, not in panels but in main tabs. I'm trying to type in a tab but the focus is stuck somewhere else. I am never able to reproduce it unfortunately.

This seems to happen every time when messenger.com is open in the sidebar and gets a new message, even if some other panel is open at the time.
-
This happens to me too, on macOS 10.14 Mojave, but in reverse.
Keyboard focus gets stolen from the web panel to the main window.
Oddly, if a web panel is open and getting text stolen, the main window will also steal focus if i'm trying to type into the main window's address bar.
If I close the web panel, the stealing behavior stops.
It doesn't seem to matter what's in the web panel (spotify, google hangouts, whatsapp, weather underground, etc).
If I restart Vivaldi, the behavior goes away, albeit temporarily.

This is a problem with messenger.com fo shooo.
Are there any workarounds? -
I reported this issue as VB-65872.
-
HAve you noticed any regularity to it? To me it kind os eems random if this is happening or not. But it is highly annoying, I send my google searches to my chat contacts about once a day :-(.

Every single time with Whatsapp web panel.
-
Annoying.
-
happens to me as well
-
This has been happening to be since a recent update. I run tweetdeck in a web panel, and halfway through tying a URL, I'll all of a sudden be halfway through composing a tweet.
-
Yeah, this is the most annoying bug in Vivaldi, it is sad it is still there :-(.
-
Latest snapshot fixed "[Panels] Periodic reload steals focus (VB-76536)". Is it related?
-
@felagund
Most likely it is about the same bug.
It is - for me - solved now.
Try it out.
However, web panels cause that in new Vivaldi window the focus is not immediately in the address bar. -
Hard to tell, it was not happening for me always, but I hope so. I guess this can be marked as fixed @Gwen-Dragon, if it reoccurs, I would immediately come back:-).
-
@thangcuoi You can replicate it like this: have a downloads panel with active download in sidebar. Then switch to some webpanel you also have in a sidebar and the bug starts happening.
This happens also if you have Hangouts as webpanel and you get a new message notification. It will also steal focus.
I already reported a bug right now, it's VB-77386. -
@Gwen-Dragon Oh, I missed the rest of the thread when I replied a second ago.
So, can you tell when will it be fixed in the stable release?
