Option to Disable Autoload and Autoplay of HTML5 Videos
-
@iAN-CooG : thx for your comment. I didn't know that .
-
@iAN-CooG Autoplaystopper does not work. Example:
Scrolling down a pop-up-window with an autoplay-video appears.
-
@osbornexy I don't see any on that page, maybe it's an ad that gets completely removed by uBlock Origin, which I am gladly using.
BTW, autoplay stopper works nicely for me on reddit or twitter, so it definately works. -
@iAN-CooG I use uBlock Origin too and Adaware Ad Block. So it seems an item with my configuration. Still no idea what makes the pop-ups appear and play.
The picture-in-picture mode and all Video-item in config are disabled.
Thanks for your support. -
@osbornexy
This one works for me on the popular sites: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-html5-autoplay-re/cafckninonjkogajnihihlnnimmkndgfGive it a try!
-
@Nekomajin
"Give it a try!" I'll do that. -
@iAN-CooG Didn't work for me on YouTube.
-
@hsjawanda Youtube is moving their autoplay controls to be almost next to the resolution settings (still a slider with a play button icon). Auto load is kinda blocked as many videos have an ad before they can be played.

Hi All,
While I still enjoy using this browser I would surely enjoy using it a lot more if at least SOME kind of mechanism could get implemented so as to at least prevent SOME of the html5 videos from auto playing. Just for reference sake & of course NOT trying to be rude to any of the developer's of this browser, but a feature such as the developer's of the brave browser has implemented & seems to function pretty well is included up in the address bar on the left hand side. With that browser at least every site that you visit has a link to 'site settings' where you can actually tailor quite a few individual settings to suite your individual tastes, and of course on sites that contain videos there's an option for the auto playing of videos where you can set it to 'block' that from happening. At lease the times when I have used that browser for experimentation purposes as well as reference purposes, that particular setting seems to actually function pretty well. At least for me anyway, that one option surely wouldn't make me want to quit using vivaldi and actually switch to brave as my default browser. I'm still hoping that at least some kind of video auto play feature eventually gets implemented into this browser. I'm sure that if I understood more about adding a script or coding it would probably be highly possible to add that so videos wouldn't play automatically. Of course this is what I call 'food for thought'. I've included a screenshot of the site settings page for yahoo.com so you could actually see what I'm talking about.
Update: I thought that I should add a note to the developers of this great browser, I'm surely not trying to be rude or disrespectful in any way shape or form. I enjoy using this browser, and in just MY opinion only..while I feel as though there aren't any 'perfect' browsers, vivaldi ranks very high up in my list of available browsers.

@Nekomajin , Thanks for suggesting this extension, as for myself..it's the one that I've been using for awhile now. I also have this one in my current list of extension's: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-autoplay-blocker-by/khhablkjeghmeinlfgecddpgcopnljpm and it also seems to function very similar. Stay Safe !

@Davy49 That looks like the Chromium site settings for a website, what Chromium base is Brave using, wonder if Vivaldi could implement that site setting.
-
@osbornexy Confirmed even with uBlock Origin.
This is the type of abusive Ads some have warned about since last year:

Yep, but I don't see autoplay in the list, there is also no autoplay in the Google Chrome (86.0.4240.198) Site settings.

Vivaldi and many other Chromium based browsers do have a blocked 'abusive' ads by default
Many Chromium based browsers are on Chromium 88 now

I recently discovered Vivaldi desktop browser and utterly fell in love with it. The ability to customize so many settings was a dream come true. I was genuinely excited to dump my old browser and embrace Vivaldi wholeheartedly.... Until I opened several new tabs and discovered there was no way to disable the auto play of audio and video. Deal breaker.
<sigh> That love affair didn't last long. Goodbye Vivaldi. Back to Firefox, I guess.

@ribartel
Good luck with that in FF, I just tried in FF updated to latest 85 version, set default to block autoplay of audio and video on all sites, went to 9gag.com, and just by scrolling down, all videos start anyway playing. So much for that feature.
Extension AutoplayStopper actually works for me in Vivaldi. -

How is this still an issue? Vivaldi is amazing with tabs and the syncing with mobile tabs is broken af but at least it exists unlike Brave. Brave has a clear and concise option to disable autoplay, how does a browser meant for 100s of tabs not?

Yeah, I don't know. It's 2021 and we still have to deal with autoplay. Vivaldi devs don't seem to care about what the users want.
