Two-level Tab Stacks – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2130.3

@ruarí: I'm 23, you are 57... you are the old man..

I probably found a bug. I have set Tab Stacking/second row, use dotted tabs to visualize the stack.
2 single tabs, drag one into the other to create the stack. the 2nd row is displayed, with the 2 separate tabs, ok.
now drag one out of the stack with the mouse. The dragged out one is now on a single tabs row, the remaining one is now pratically a tab stack of 1 tab, still displayed by itself on the 2nd row.
To fix, redrag the 2 tabs to form a tab stack and use the context menu to Ungroup tab stack.Summary: [Two-level tab stack] Ungrouping a tab stack by dragging leaves last tab in stack still as a 1 tab stack
Key: VB-75184 -
At one point we will need sync of the customized menus, recreating this is a huge endeavor.
-
For some reason I can't find the setting for two-level tab stacks. Appears to be missing completely from my settings list.
-
Note: Two-level Tab Stacks are currently behind an experiment flag but they are ready to test, just enable them in: vivaldi://experiments
-
@Stardust so I'm an idiot. I totally thought I checked there. thanks for the help.

How do you lock? Given the feature is all about a second level, it's unclear how that "avoids changing the page view height when switching between tabs," but I'm sure I'll understand once I figure out where it is.
-
I don't see "tab stacking" sub-settings on my 64-bit version. however, those settings were synced from my other 32-bit version. very strange.
-
@rseiler When you have a two-level tab stack selected, you should see this lock icon on the right side. Clicking that will make sure the two-level doesn't disappear when switching to individual tabs

I'm always surprised by the features the Vivaldi devs implement. I didn't even know I needed this until I just now tried it. It's way better for dealing with tab stacks - it makes them work better as workspaces.

Feels Opera-Presto style
No way. In Presto I could move the tabs between the stacks and open multiple stacks at the same time - and the screen didn't move when you did so.
-
This new tab stacking is quite something. Makes me wish I could set the second level to display elsewhere (e.g. tabs display on top, tab stack second level displays on the bottom).
Also, this really makes me wish that pressing
cmd + T
while inside a tab stack would open the new tab inside the tab stack. -

I wonder if this should affect only the current window? Since it affects all windows the option really belongs in Settings next to the two row tab stacking radio button.

@ChimeraTech0 Wow, it would have been a while before I looked there. It's a very subtle change, but I see what it does now.
BTW, they might want to consider changing that icon to make locked/unlocked a little more readily apparent. Yes, it's easy to see when zoomed in, but not otherwise, at least on modern resolutions.

I think that these two options for a tab stack (2-level and 1-level) are different features and should not replace one with the other. Both options can be useful for one person.
The second row of tabs is for many tabs so as not to get lost in them. The option with the absence of the second row is good and sufficient for a small number of tabs, as well as for the mode of tiled tabs in the stack (their contents will be displayed at the same time, so the second row of tabs will only be a waste of screen space). -
@Asires i think will be done that way. Is just a stepping stone for a "stack view options" (and maybe for tree tabs). Is still experimental, after all.

As I was fiddling with the new "2-level tab-stacking" which is works btw, I stumbled on a major regression.I can no longer drag the address-bar down (or double-click just above it) to get "tab previews": See picture below:This feature is a life-saver, and I was very glad it was brought over to Vivaldi from Opera. I checked with all options for "Tab Stacking", inc "disabled", same (lack of) result. I hope it's a mistake rather than part of the the plan.I've only just started trying the "snapshot" version, so can't say when this regression came in.(edit) This was a my mistake: I'd missed the "Show Tab Thumbnails" setting.
