remove Bing from Vivaldi

Re: Kill Bing
even i am in google.com and search for something, the Google result will show for a second and then switch right away to Bing. it is sooooo annoying that for searches i am not using Vivaldi anymore. I deleted Bong also from the settings, was no help. I just switch to Opera or other browsers for searches. There its fine. its just strange that this behavior is only in Windows version. Not in Android and Linux. Any help is appreciated.

@wobf58 Sounds like a browser hijack. I have deleted the Bing search engine, though I do use Bing Translate as a web panel. I have never seen the search redirected to Bing.
Does this always happen, or only sometimes?
-
It happens always. But only in windows.
-
-
@wobf58 , I can't reproduce it, I have more than a dozen search engines among which does not include Bing, Google and neither does Yahoo, search engines that I have long since deleted from the list without problems.
Simply by going to the settings, selecting a different search engine as the default and deleting the mentioned ones that I have not seen since.
In Windows settings do you have set Vivaldi as the default browser? -
so you are thinking that Vivaldi got hijacked. then i will delete it, reinstall and create a new profile.
-
@wobf58 Close Vivaldi and delete profile first.

Was there not another thread related to this just days ago, where it was found an extension was the culprit. Maybe try turning off extensions?
-
Thanks for your help. just changing profile wasn't helping. Needed to de-install, delete everything related to Vivaldi from the laptop and doing a new install. Now everything works like expected. And now I know for the next time.

Tools like uBlock Origin and Script Jaeger can be useful against browser hijackers. Also a periodic scan with ADWCleaner

No, these tools can only do things within the webpage. They cannot remove malware. They could block webpages that are known to contain malware.

@code3 , in Windows you can eliminate the telemeties, but then you have to whitelist Bing and Skype, if not, they are blocked by the own Windows
Best prove that Bing and Skype are part of the Windows telemetry-
Certainly it isn't a recommended search engine, not better than Google. Only usable with others front end, like DDG , Startpage or Whoogle, whic use them, but withoyt telemetrics- -
@jon I agree, deleting the profile seems like overkill to me. The first thing I'd try is disabling extensions.
-
@guigirl That sounds like a conversation worth having. But I think we ought to have it on another thread.
