URL sharing via QR code and an update to Chromium 87 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2110.3

@k3dAR
Brilliant! Thank you for the workaround. It's tricky because the settings involved are on different tabs/pages (Lazy load is on General, and the favicon is on Tabs).
Perhaps something for the UX devs to think about

[New][Settings] Accept-language setting (VB-3355)
Nice!, love it.
I am a person who moves between different languages and this feature makes it easy for me to change the language of Vivaldi. Thank you very much! -
@Stardust unfortunately even with the css mod it isn't quite vertical stacks. It just hides the thumbnail.

It's actuslly quite a nice change, so I'll keep it active for now, until there is a mode without thumbnails for the two of us
It's just a vertical popup thumbnails instead of normal horizontal thumbnails. I think I just don't like popups elements so muchI personally don't use mods in Vivaldi.
But especially for touch devices, where other parts of the changelog seem to be going, I think that expanding tab stacks (or a reworked windows panel) may still be more useful.
I am a big fan of the classic Opera 11/12 tab stacking and patiently waiting for its comeback.

okay, np

@nutcracker: But then we could never improve them. We have plans for tabs that I think many here will like. To achieve those ends some code clean up is needed. What you are asking for is that nothing ever changes.
If you don't testing out changes, use the stable. Whilst that has also suffered from regressions, there is far less turbulence there.

I'm getting some QR weirdness - although it's not Vivaldi's fault... my phone refuses to read the QR in the pop-up by the address bar for this blog - even though it does read the one in the blog image (shorter URL means less complex code). The really weird thing is that if I copy and paste in GIMP then suddenly it can instantly read it!
The only difference I can see is that the image is displayed maybe 50% larger in GIMP. Perhaps an option to click to enlarge the displayed code might help?
Edit: 30 seconds later and I figured it out! I have a dark theme and it is not detecting the edges of the code block. Changing to a lighter theme fixed it. Strangely, the dark grey background in GIMP was not such an issue.
So; bug: need to add a light border on the rendered QR image.

@mossman I can confirm this - have you filed a bug report?

If anyone wants the new tab stack design but without thumbnails, you can use the following mod:
I am curious how it looks like, could you post a screenshot?
It's very nice (I used 44px)
In these cases, using lazy load [at the startup] is higly recommended.

ah, make sense.
But it shouldn't be enabled by default imo. -
@mossman on the subject of themes...
I've noticed that another theme-related bug in recent snapshots (not just this one) is that the accent colour often doesn't follow the active page like I've set it... it seems to be one step behind, so if I got to a red-heavy page and then switch to a blue coloured page, the tabs etc. are still red.
Anyone else notice this?
-
@Stardust I actually don't use stacks too much, usually I max stack 10 tabs. But for testing the feature I open most internal pages (Imagine do that with with dozen of video pages) in a single stack.
About lazy load as default... I think is fine otherwise less powerful PCs would have trouble to start the Vivaldi UI/chromium renderer. Or just put lazy load with the explanation in welcome page. Is a good compromise.
Lazy load off and tendency to show all history are the most common cause of UI hangs.
With a rationale use of stacks/tabs - or a great patience - lazy load could be avoided at all.
(A 50~100+ tab user should know that have to wait and make a in the meanwhile). -

I remember a 3.5 internal Daily had this. I will check.Happens with 3.5.2110.3 only if i open in background.
You're right - I've just done some testing and a page opened from the speed-dial will always have the correct accent colour, but the exact same speed-dial link opened in background will keep the colour of the previously opened tab.
If you click a link on that faulty tab then it starts working.
Oh - I see you've reported already, thanks.

Same here, since Opera 12

Yes, but what about a more Powerful PCs? Users will notice that something wrong with tabs loading
-
@Stardust That's why I proposed to put in welcome page. A lot of people only have 4 or 8gb, maybe even a discrete or an older CPU/GPU but still abuse tabs. Maybe they come from Chrome/Firefox which already have a default "aggressive" lazy load~hibernation system and will think the slowiness is due vivaldi UI. The issue, here, is this feature is pretty much became a standard. Who wants to avoid that, like us, will change the settings, or ask here.
For example, my main snap don't use lazy load (normal usage) while my test snap (stress tests) really need the feature only due the huge list of stack you saw above.

Come the Revolution, they'll be the first against the wall.
Spoiler
Just why is it that revolutionaries intensively dislike Pink Floyd like this? ️
-
@Hadden89 I guess I was wrong about this feature, it makes sense when you use Last Session startup, right?

@Stardust Exactly.
