More fixes and another minor Chromium bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2088.7

@Stardust lol
In the meantime there have been 3 updates to the stable browser. Who’s the snapshot now? -

@potmeklecbohdan ah, got it now
-
@potmeklecbohdan The updates for the stables were just chromium updates with no bugfixes at all, not a big deal if you ask me. All the bugs are still there.
-
@iAN-CooG Well, if the updates are necessary for security, they should be applied on both Snapshot and Stable tbh. I do not mind Snapshot to fail now and then, but I disagree that it should hold code that's being actively exploited.

I do.
(I use both to be more precise, each for their own distinct reason , )

Not really. By definition it is at their discretion, thus not a given or guaranteed:
-> Snapshots are work-in-progress builds for anyone to test.
-> With a Snapshot, you are the first to test-drive some really cool features.
-> We rely on Snapshots being tested by as many people as possible, so that we can fix most bugs before the feature is released in a Stable version.
-> We recommend Snapshots to developers and advanced users who want a sneak peak of the features we have in store for the final release.So as you see it's all about testing new features. Correct me if I'm wrong but this reminds me of Debian testing, which iirc is there only for packages to be tested and does not receive security updates, ergo not meant for daily use.

@npro Given the convergence of stable and snap on chromium 86 would be nice to have few more security updates even on them, but yeah, are more towards fixing vivaldi bugs and features than enforcing security (and usually is not a big deal for home users to stay on a slightly "old minor version" or a beta engine). And we probably will go to chr87 beta at the next round.
-
I disagree. For me, Snapshots are about stability missing, not about security missing.
There is no warning, there is no update, and this just feels wrong, since the recent Chromium bugs seem to be rather severe. I do not want my browser to be easily exploitable, and I do not believe that anyone else would like this for themselves.I think it would be cooler if vivaldi would simply release a snapshot with security updates even if it may break some features instead of holding out for a whole week or longer. They have most certainly patched it internally already, and I think that pushing it should be the correct priority in such a case.
Otherwise, using the snapshot should not only not be done on any productive machine, but it should be used in labs only, instead. -
@Hadden89 would be nice to have is the key word here . Disagreeing with reality won't change reality 🧱 . But the question is other... just Chr87 or together with M3-TP? The time has come... the delay has justified it...

@jumpsq Nothing wrong with switching to Stable (for security) until new Snapshot is released!
Only reason I can see for staying on Snapshot at the moment is stubbornness -

Two weeks without a snapshot…
Thirty three days & still no sign of land...

Well, i do, since a week ago, coz i like living on the bleeding edge [but never Edge], not frozen solid like you weirdo Snapshotters...

Well, I must confess, I have installed both :face_with_stuck-out_tongue:

@Stardust For as long as there has been the two distinct parallel V streams i have had both installed, after all in Linux it's just so easy given by design their profiles are independent without needing me to lift a finger. In "normal" times my daily default is Snapshot, but every now & then when some especially intolerable bug arises in Snapshot without a rapid fix, i jump over to Stable to preserve my (in)sanity. Whilst i am missing my black, i am revelling in the sane tabs behaviour still extant in red. As well, the annoying SearX POST bug that returned in a recent Snapshot, also is not [yet] present in Stable.

Seems like a great strategy

Oh, euw. We can no longer talk to you.
Dead to us.

@npro Still giggling as i type...
Finally you posted this! Tbh i have felt slightly disappointed & confused until now that you'd not already turned my words back on me like this a week or two ago -- i temporarily changed to Stable within a day or two of my posting about the tabs bug [ie, ~ a fortnight ago], & i have mentioned this in various subsequent posts... each time holding my breath in expectation of a justifiably withering bit of snark from you. When it never came, i assumed that you were taking the high moral road & proving your decency & rectitude.
Now the world is back on track.
