      @Pathduck We can always do this with quick commands too, is faster. But I like the idea to make this a default for new users.

                    @Gwen-Dragon The fact that it's good for @luetage & me, but bad for you & @derDay ... does this imply a problem specific to V builds only when using one of

                    #de_DE ISO-8859-1

                    ?

                    Oh curses -- you edited, so now my post seems silly.

                        @derDay Maybe the Devs have a new policy -- cycle one by one through each country & pick on them individually? Who will be next?

                              @Steffie As of now I’ve found 2 ways, of which one doesn’t work if I edit it just a little, and the other doesn’t seem right to me (but that may be just me).

                              Nothing will work if you don’t have a colourful emoji font, e.g. (already mentioned) Noto Color Emoji.

                              Also, I recommend you first of all checking the emoji fonts section in Plasma settings.

                              What I have done (but may not work for you, or even for me if I try tomorrow)

                              1. (Stopped working even after I only changed sans-serif to something else)
                                In ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini (not sure if necessary)
                                gtk-font-name=sans-serif 10

                                In ~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf:
                                  <alias>
                                    <family>sans-serif</family>
                                    <prefer>
                                      <family>Iosevka Term</family>
                                      <family>Noto Color Emoji</family>
                                    </prefer>
                                    <default><family>Iosevka Term</family></default>
                                  </alias>

                              2. (Doesn’t seem right to me, and is equal to uninstalling the other emoji fonts)
                                In ~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf:
                                  <selectfont>
                                    <rejectfont>
                                      <pattern>
                                        <patelt name="family">
                                          <string>EmojiSymbols</string>
                                        </patelt>
                                      </pattern>
                                    </rejectfont>
                                  </selectfont>

                                @potmeklecbohdan I don't really use the menu, but for me it seems to work with noto emojis.

                                Screenshot from 2020-10-01 17-57-51.png

                                When I set it up the first time I had to jump a few hoops though. I don’t find the source anymore, but I made a file in etc/fonts called local.conf with all the substitutions.

                                <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
                                <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">

                                  Localization is a hell.

                                  This is a small mistake in the German translation. I've notified the translator group so it should be fixed for the next snapshot. 👍

                                    Thank you all.

                                    You who clearly understand all this fonty faffle will likely think this a daft question, but here goes.

                                    If i do install the Noto emoji family thingie, does that MANDATE that i must also use Noto as my default ordinary fonts?

                                    If yes, then i am not interested to proceed. If no, i shall give it a try.

                                    PS:

                                    have a colourful emoji font, e.g. (already mentioned) Noto Color Emoji

                                    I readily acknowledge that we have discussed this before, & i did try to solve it but i abandoned bothering with it due to my inability to understand the question i have now asked just above.

                                      @Steffie No, that would be rather bad design. You use whatever fonts you like anywhere in your system and emojis should work automatically with the noto emoji font installed and the local.conf file placed. Test here before and after.

                                          Still same crash on Linux (VB-71985), still unable to download debug snapshot build.

                                          I'm unable to download debug binaries for Linux snapshot builds. Following instructions on https://help.vivaldi.com/article/reporting-crashes-on-linux/, I'm trying to download this file for the snapshot here https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/desktop/custom-links-in-menus-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-2059-2/:

                                          It is not the first time, I've failed to do so for every last snapshot we had, see my posts at https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/51173/periodic-tab-reload-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-2056-19/142?lang=en-US&page=8

                                          Come on, could anyone at Vivaldi support team check if the Linux snapshots debug builds are published and the instructions for crash reporting are still valid? Here is a user that wants help you, but you don't give me a chance!

                                            @Steffie Nope, nope, nope.

                                            Meine Emojis bleiben gebrochen, d.h. einfarbig und missgebildet.

                                            This is me, giving up on it, again... & pretending i don't care, again.

                                            Spoiler

                                            1. I installed noto-fonts-emoji from the main Arch repos.
                                            2. I created /etc/fonts/local.conf with contents per @luetage at https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/402429
                                            3. I relaunched V-SS & confirmed that the V Menu Tools - Internal Tools - ⛔ RESTART ⛔ still only displays as malformed monochrome re the emojis.
                                            4. I closed everything, logged out then logged back into my Plasma desktop.
                                            5. Repeated #3 - still NFG.
                                            6. Rebooted.
                                            7. Repeated #3 - still NFG.
                                            8. Searched my Bookmarks & rediscovered this old reference https://archived.forum.manjaro.org/t/tutorial-how-to-enable-system-wide-color-emoji-support/35188
                                            9. i diffed that url's /etc/fonts/local.conf against that per #2, noted multiple differences, decided to retain #2.
                                            10. Noted that url's "Go to your settings or configuration tool and change the font to "Sans Serif". This will use the configuration we've just created so apps can show emoji." & rejected it -- as previously stated, i simply will not change my prefered default fonts merely to use some lousy emojis.
                                            11. Noted that url's later post/reply https://archived.forum.manjaro.org/t/tutorial-how-to-enable-system-wide-color-emoji-support/35188/3, & so copied my /etc/fonts/local.conf to /home/steffie/.config/fontconfig/local.conf [knowing this is not what that reference had said].
                                            12. I closed everything, logged out then logged back into my Plasma desktop.
                                            13. Repeated #3 - still NFG.
                                            14. Contemplated following https://archived.forum.manjaro.org/t/tutorial-how-to-enable-system-wide-color-emoji-support/35188/3 to the letter, ie, replacing the contents of /home/steffie/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf with /etc/fonts/local.conf, felt this was likely unwise [ie, maybe a similar feeling to @potmeklecbohdan per https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/402417 ?].
                                            15. Contemplated maybe replacing either /etc/fonts/local.conf or /home/steffie/.config/fontconfig/local.conf with contents of https://gist.github.com/Nyubis/2023a01276c1cfc9786a per @potmeklecbohdan at https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/402381, noted however that it seems entirely predicated on using my disliked font family Noto, so didn't bother.
                                            16. Decided to abandon this foolish quest once again.
                                            17. Commenced a period of intensive sulking; duration indeterminate. 🙎🏻
