Option to Open New Tabs in Background as Default

My thinking is that since this is the way it was originally designed before it was ripped off and altered by other browsers, and since this is the way it works in Opera12 (made by the developers who invented "open in new tab") and since Vivaldi was founded largely for the purpose of providing safe harbor to users who had been cast adrift when Opera12 was abandoned, they built it the way old Opera users would be comfortable.
I personally, in the couple of years I used New Opera15 et seq, never grew used to "new tab" always opening in the background. When I open in a new tab, it's because I want to go there. Now. But without losing my old tab. And it always kind of pissed me off I couldn't do this in New Opera after it switched to the Blink engine. It was one of many things that pissed me off about the change.
That said, because the change in default behavior was something I could never get comfortable with, I totally understand new Vivaldi users who find the original design of the function uncomfortable, because they have never used it. And for this reason, I think editing menus will come, and this will be part of it. But I think the "out of the box" behavior will remain the one that we old, loyal users of the original Opera expected.Exactly:
- The behaviour is designed this way because that is how Opera 12 does it, and Vivaldi is from the same developer “For our friends.”
- Existing users would not like the default to change. An option needs to be added, which will take time. Allow Editing of Context Menus may come soon, and seems to be the most flexible solution.
- The developers (and we volunteers) understand that users want a choice, but it will not be available until it is ready. We have no control over what gets attention next, so all we can do is offer work-arounds and explain the way things are, and suggest reasons why that might be so.

this is the thing that is going me to make don't use vivaldi as main browser.

I don't know, is that feature too important to take 3 years of vote
anyway I want to open tabs in background using first command in the right click menu is there any addon to do that ? -
@sinfulslave As suggested by @Gaëlle on the first page:
-
@Pesala Not a good substitute, I'm afraid - I've tried it. I keep coming back to Vivaldi now and again to see if anything has ever been done about this feature request; it never has and it looks like it never will be.
So it's back to Firefox for the foreseeable future. -
Vote for adding an option,please! microsft edge will have vertical tabs soon, if you guys don`t catch up, you will lose more users.

I know there are several ways to open links in background, but I want to simply set it as the default behaviour and not have to use middle click, context menu, or gestures...
-
Why is ctrl+click not an option?
very simple: because most users do not use a mouse anymore but use a laptop (touchpad) or a tablet (touchscreen).
So having the option to open external links in a new background tab would help a lot. -
Why External Links Should Open in New Tabs?
read this from a UX expert:

@Gwen-Dragon if standards or 'industry standards' are the bible, then there is no place for an alternative browser as vivaldi where choice is king.
I find it very inconvenient that EXTERNAL tabs open on the same page, especially in search pages or lists of links, so i would LOVE an OPTION to do that with just a 1 click (without ctrl, or gestures or triple click or whatever)
Please gives us that option ! (as an option in settings).

@7twenty
For me it is very inconvenient to click with the mouse wheel. -

@7twenty I do not have a mouse! most people use laptops and tablets now without a mouse.
-
@7twenty , @Gwen-Dragon, @Pesala
Middle-click? I do not use a mouse
!
Like many other people, I use laptops and tablets now, WITHOUT a mouse.So middle-click is not an option at all (and gestures and menus etc. either).
Let us the choice (on/off option) to open EXTERNAL pages in a new (background) tab, for all those that do find this convenient.and please as @Jon the founder always says: "Vivaldi is all about choice", not dogmatism.

Vivaldi has some great features and some not so great. Not having the option to open new tabs in the background by default is the one reason why it is another browser and not my default browser. Two years with a lot of pathetic excuses on this thread is sending Vivaldi to Revo Uninstaller and me sticking with Edge and Firefox.

And most laptops (that I've used, anyway) support "middle-clicking" using 3 fingers on the touch pad.

well be my guest and use your 3 fingers if that suits you. But for me 3 fingers is inconvenient.
I like to have this function as an OPTION, not as the default, so it would not affect your preferred way of using Vivaldi.
Again; Vivaldi is all about options as @Jon the founder always says: Vivaldi is all about choice: "... we build software based on flexibility and listening to our users. We make features that are requested by many and features that are requested by few."

@peefy , indeed. We are all about choice and providing options, so we need an option for this as well. Hopefully we can get to it soon.

@jon Wow thank you @Jon !!
Glad that opening external links in new background tabs is on your radar!Firefox always had extension "tab mix plus" doing this, but I am sure Vivaldi can do better!
@Jon Vivaldi just broke all records in superb customer support! I never had a CEO reacting in hours on a simple customer concern.
That's why the best browser, just gets better and better!
Now looking forward to the long anticipated Vivaldi Mail Client M3 , so I can finally ditch the buggy Windows Mail.
