I can't believe I was going through the Forum the VERY MOMENT this was posted! First!
-
@crimsonshade: Well done! I did this at an odd time and you were the first one to catch it.
-
@Ruarí I caught it too, but I fainted :|
-
@luetage: better luck next time!
-
@Ruarí LOL WTF it's midnight in Europe dudes!
-
@pathduck: and now it is 12:40 but here I am, reading your reply
-
@Ruarí And listening to some bangin' classic Trance toons I bet
-
@pathduck: of course!
-
@Ruarí By the way I just had a brain wave (maybe a fart...): The URL cropping is nice and all, but for us dedicated k/b warriors, it would be great if we could perform the same thing using the keyboard. Cursor on the relevant part of the URL, Ctrl+Enter will crop the URL. Consistency!
Also, any way to get rid of this?
'Cause I'm not sure I like it. I prefer to actually read my address bar. I assume this is some new Chromium thing. Man what's up with those guys, always trying to hide the fact we're actually browsing the web... -
4th! It's gonna be a nice surprise to those in Europe that will be waking up in a couple of hours, I approve
-
@npro A nice surprise for those still awake too.
The Easier URL cropping is nice.
-
Someone was past their sleeping time when posting this!
-
This is a very clever change to make the feature easier to use, thanks!

This snapshot seems to have fixed
VB-49899
, thank you! -

, thank you!Indeed seems fixed now. As a reference:

@Pathduck Do you mean domain highlighting? That's nothing to do with google or chrome, and is something that most browsers have been doing for a while now. Even old opera did it.
It's something users have been requesting for a while, too:
- https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/33658/full-address-syntax-highlighting
- https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/29677/split-address-into-breadcrumbs-for-ctrl-click-discoverability
If you're really desperate to get rid of it, the css mod
.UrlFragment-Wrapper{color:var(--HighlightColor)}
will restore the old behaviour for you. -
@LonM nice, if it can be added by devs as a setting for leaving it to user preference would be even nicer.

Yes well, just because everyone else is doing something doesn't mean Vivaldi should.
It's something users have been requesting for a while, too:
Those requests are not really the same thing. And they have very few votes (which is for the best IMO).
There's no mention of this in the changelog, which is what leads me to suspect this being a Chromium change. Unless they decided to "sneak" it in and hope everyone would love it. Or (more worrying) they don't have full control over what changes are committed for each release.
And it's very unlike Vivaldi to introduce a feature without also introducing an option to turn it off in preferences... oh wait
Anyway, it's a Snapshot, so this is all expected of course. And I know how to CSS mod it out (thanks for the code!). Just would be nice to hear something about their concrete thinking behind the change - why obscure parts of the URL?
Is it safer? More secure? Prettier? Less confusing to us poor (stupid) users?
-
@Pathduck I guess they decided to make it while making another feature (Ctrl-highlighting) that also requires different styles for different parts of the address.
Nevertheless, I hate this as well. Lucky me, I have the address bar hidden now.
