Tracking blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1838.3

@AltCode said in Tracking blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1838.3:
It would be great if clicking the shield icon displayed the number of trackers that were blocked and if possible, which ones as well. Seeing how this is somewhat similar to DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, I don't see why this couldn't be done, unless I misunderstood the blog post.
And to be unified with the locker icon next to it in addition to the "blocked content" icon at the right side of the address bar, so we would have a single icon with all the website info
-
@Pathduck Hey, while you're at it, and assuming we won't get an option to do it (which would be too bad), is there CSS to disappear (including the space taken up by it) the new icon devoted to tracking?
-
@Pesala no, this is not true, the PiP icon also disappears on Youtube videos and Facebook videos...if you drag the mouse pointer all the way down...to the taskbar
-
@ornorm: the icon comes back for me in fullscreen on YT as soon as my mouse hovers on the video (by design) and doesn't fade out (bug). Was hoping that this would be addressed in this snapshot. That is still the biggest annoyance for me w.r.t. the PIP feature.
-
Annoying tracking blocker icon could be hidden like this:
.addressfield *:not(.toolbar-small) .button-toolbar { display: none; }
-
@rseiler Here's what I use:
/* Hide content blocker button */ .button-toolbar button[title^="Content Blocker"] { display: none; }
There are other solutions, including the one right above. I just think mine is more future-proof
-
@noroots Unfortunately. I was too enthusiastic at the first use...
@Gwen-Dragon said in Tracking blocker – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1838.3:
@Ornorm But it fails on youtube in regular view if you hovered the video's tool bar and back to video.

Hey, the tracker blocker is great so far. I visit another forum that is just littered with GoogleAd placed advertisements. I set Vivaldi to block all trackers, and now I just see spinning circles instead of the ads!

Outlook webmail (outlook.office365.com) is very slow again ... slowing down over time until it is impossible to use.
Win10x64 Vx64

@pesala: i don't know what non-existent site mean (404? dns fail to resolve? empty (invalid, without status code etc) response from server? all of the above? some of them?)
but
some may be temporary issues and I know about it, some may be temporary issues and i'm not sure, so I will check for next 2 months to see if my favourite website will continue to work. in those cases I don't want my browser to crash
is it edge-case? probably. im just answering question why would i keep such bookmarks
-
Does the tracking blocker add any advantages over the already well established uBlock and Privacy Badger? I mean, apart from its obvious native integration. I'm extremely happy with both of those plugins. I also use Steven Black's hosts blocker too.
Functionality shouldn't be enabled or disabled by default, it should be an asked question per a Wizard or on-page notification (when a tracker is detected). If it's a user decision, it's a user decision. You want to maintain transparency with these kinds of behaviours, instead of assuming what a user wants.

Is the source for snapshots available somewhere? Similar to the main builds under: https://vivaldi.com/source/ ?

When I start Vivaldi, the browser shows an empty menu. If I switch from the normal Vivaldi button to the horizontal menu and then switch back to the normal Vivaldi button, the Vivaldi menu is normal again. As soon as I close the browser and start again, the menu is empty again.
After starting Vivaldi:
This is what it should look like:
Windows 10 Pro x64 (1909)
All extensions disabledCan someone confirm this bug?
Cheers
-
@HalleAndert No such problem here. Try disabling all extensions.
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb on Win 10 64-bit 1909 build 18363.657 • Stable 2.11.1811.44 (64-bit)
-
@pesala: All extensions are disabled. I noted it below the 2nd picture. I just send a bug report to the devs.
(VB-64179) When I start Vivaldi, the browser shows an empty menu.

@lamarca: thank you for testing.
-
@pathduck: Both are not so good, TBH. Text matching is more expensive in terms of performance and because of not zero chance that title will be changed. Selectors with exclusion generally also not best performers and also not so robust in case of layout/markup changes... But both do their job, at least for current build.

@13-beta2 That's true I guess. Problem is, they've started using random garbage CSS class names like
button-toolbar ck7dxr1b40004325mg6udvr2g
. It's almost like they don't want us to change things. Then again sometimes they do change it to something more descriptive after a while.I could also style the
toolbar-insideinput
parent class, but it's also not unique so could risk it affecting something else in the code.So for now it'll have to do...
