Vivaldi 2.11 improves Pop-out video
-
@pesala: Yes, but it's a feature that was recently introduced and is one that should immediately be fixed. Why must we vote on it? It's not even a mild annoyance. It's constant obtrusion.

@taraletti
It is not recommended to use older versions due to security things but you can find older versions here: https://vivaldi.com/download/archive/ -

@bononi-gustavo: Temporary solution is, to hide it on youtube, you must push cursor on edge of screen, top, bottom, right or left, then icon is hidden.
I noticed last night that it reappeared after a while when I was watching BBC iPlayer so I had to wiggle the cursor and "park" it off-screen again. I don't think the mouse had moved (laptop with trackpad)...
-
@Pesala I'm sorry, but that is not the same thing. It's an abusive icon as it appears every single time a video is opened. Firefox has this icon too, but there is a toggle for it in the options, which should have been the case with Vivaldi as well.
Also, we shouldn't vote for such a thing as this is and should be considered a BUG, not a feature.
Ironic comment: Maybe for the next major release, make the whole UI colored as a rainbow and make it move like a hypnotizing effect whenever you start a video and of course make it mandatory so that people can't disable this. They will surely love it.

Ha ha ha! You know, it would actually be pretty cool if Vivaldi produced a version 2.11bork that did this to acknowledge the screw-up.

@SorinMOprea
I would upvote the first part of your comment, but the last paragraph is way too much. Yes, they made a mistake, and yes, it's highly annoying, but Vivaldi is known about the choice it gives to the users. They will fix this in short time. -
Somehow it is also a funny thing that for months jumps a thread behind another, asking for a PiP button, and now the same with the request to remove it.
-
@Catweazle
Well, not every user upvoted that request. And it's a bad implementation. -

That leads me to conclude that a prominent PIP button is apparently a very divisive thing among users, with strong feelings on both sides. In such cases of strong division, an option to show/not-show it would seem to be in order, and I rather imagine that will be forthcoming before too long. But whoever would have thought beforehand that the presence or absence of a mere button would have engaged so much outspoken user opinion?! Frankly, it all makes me glad I'm not in the browser development business...
-
@Blackbird , I think our developers appreciate having this poster at hand
-
@Catweazle They just need a dartboard to improve their aim and make sure that they can add up.
-
Well, ya win some ya lose some
Sometimes I think being a Vivaldi dev must feel something like this:
-
The PiP function is a downgrade not an upgrade. If I want to be annoyed by my browser I'll switch to Microsoft Edge.
-
Personally, I think it's a neat option, but it's not very well implemented. It shows up on audio files, and sometimes it is obstructed by the player elements, for example in YouTube embeds. And of course, not everyone is gonna like it, so having a toggle for it would be great. I just hope the devs are working on it and we'll be getting an update (or a snapshot) soon.
-
@Catweazle Well apart from a certain Opera fanboy here, I haven't seen anyone else doing what you describe tbh. I think also that this controversy is the perfect example how new(trendy) Opera and Vilaldi users are different in terms of mentality, quality and needs.
-
@npro , the same as between old and new Opera fans, I think.
-
@Catweazle I don't think such thing as "old Opera fans" exists anymore lol, as I'm pretty sure all the old Opera (= practically Presto Opera) fans have moved here, judging from what I've seen in their blogs and forums all these years with their fancy-trendy-shopping-feminine-hipstery design language and direction, and the fanboys there applausing that direction, it's a new audience altogether. Except from some old 3-4 folks there bitching all the time because they can't let go of their addiction to the product/company name, despite having nothing to do with the old company led by Jon.
-
@npro , do you mean those who pay double for a shirt to be able to make free propaganda with the Nike logo covering the entire chest? of these I also know some
-
@Catweazle You're a true (Old) Opera fan when you paint your toilet seat red. (Source: My Opera thread titled โYou're a true Opera Fan When ...โ
I still consider myself an Old Opera fan, though my toilet seat is still white. I use Opera for its email client, and for editing HTML files on my local drive. -
