Vivaldi goes mobile

@mraandtux: We really prefer people get the Android beta from the Play Store, since it will allow you to get automatic updates but for those that can't or won't, here is a download link:
https://vivaldi.com/download/Vivaldi.apk
NOTE: To ensure you get the latest fixes and security updates, I would strongly advise you subscribe to our Newsletter. Alternatively Subscribe to the RSS feed on the Vivaldi blog. When a new version comes out, download it and upgrade.

@benw: Nice link. Though that is the 64bit version so will not work on as many devices. Here is a better (more compatible) one:
https://vivaldi.com/download/Vivaldi.apk
Also, for anyone who has already downloaded from a mirror, please remember to check that any file you download from a third party service is real/genuine. Here are valid SHA (256) sums for Vivaldi 2.7.1624.163 (the first beta)
32bit:

64bit:

You should check any file you have previously downloaded
- Linux:
sha256sum Vivaldi_package_name.apk
- macOS:
shasum -a 256 Vivaldi_package_name.apk
- Windows (PowerShell):
Get-FileHash Vivaldi_package_name.apk
(On Windows 10 you can also open Windows Explorer, then right-click Vivaldi_package_name.apk and select “CRC->SHA256”)
P.S. To ensure you get the latest fixes and security updates, I would strongly advise you subscribe to our Newsletter. Alternatively Subscribe to the RSS feed on the Vivaldi blog. When a new version comes out, download it and upgrade.

This is fantastic news! Unfortunately I can't use it as I don't have Google Play (or in fact anything Google, other than AOSP) on my phone. Please consider offering an apk to download manually from the Vivaldi web site (even if you have to put a warning by it, saying "it's up to you to manually update this").
And yes, I would strongly advise you subscribe to our Newsletter or the RSS feed on the Vivaldi blog. When a new version comes out, download it and upgrade.

Also - does it have either built-in tracker-blocking or extensions support (so I can install a content-blocker)? If not, will this functionality be considered for a future release?
No and Yes

@ruario: Using your own F-Droid repo would provide automatic updates. It is the default app-store for de-googled versions of Android.
-
As of today it lists in AppBrain so you can get a better look at the statistics from the play store.
https://www.appbrain.com/app/vivaldi-browser-beta/com.vivaldi.browserVivaldi should probably get a free account there for more in-depth stats.

Nice!
-
More than a beta. Indeed. Great work
-
@dr-flay: Isn't F-Droid strictly open source? Since Vivaldi is closed wouldn't that breach F-Droids terms?
-
@michaelamadio with F-Droid is possible user add 3rd repository, and F-Droid is used as app install&update manager, then if Vivaldi create custom repository in F-Droid format, then user can add manually this repository in F-Droid settings... more info:

Glad to finally have another browser option on Android (and with sync)
-
Thank you! For the first beta this is absolute fantastic. It is fast, sync works fine (I hope it continue doing that, I don't want to lose the bookmarks bar on desktop ).
This now my default browser on Android. The first time I change my default browser with the first beta.

Have you discovered that there is also a widget for Vivaldi? "Vivaldi Search" widget.
-
@6HRFcBhv Okay, that list is quite ridiculous. I don't mind too much since the app has to ask for access when it wants to use new permissions (but maybe this doesn't apply to everything?), but the dev team should probably look into trimming that list since they will most certainly not need a majority of that stuff (like reordering apps, access BT or touch non-Vivaldi sync).

Also - "Sonstiges" (miscellaneous)...

This is so great, a huge thanks for the whole Vivaldi team !
So far, Android version is pretty solid (for a beta), I can now enjoy a neat Vivaldi experience on all my devices. -
@t0yz: The scrolling issue is known yeah, we are looking into fixing it Sadly the current speed dial implementation depends on the site's to provide a big enough image, and if they don't we scale it to size afaik. Hopefully we will have a better solution for this at a later date
-
@6HRFcBhv I'm pretty sure they used most android permissions just to avoid possible issues on the launch of the Beta.
According to the privacy, I also think that Vivaldi won't erase my phone contacts, injecting ads in my lockscreen, playing four seasons at loud volume or remove some of my apps.
About BT permission may have sense if the beta (or a newer one) allow to playback html5 video/audio on the car, as few browser (FF/opera) seems to do.Quite sure several permissions would be removed if not need, but their presence don't actually means they are used or abused.
You have to trust it or not, after all "you" are still using a beta product.
