Vivaldi 2.4: Next level Toolbar Customisation
-
@Quinca71 From what I heard, it was not security-related. Just an outage that occurred after hours (local time) that took a bit longer than expected to restore.
-
@Quinca71 by huge coincidence, yesterday was the day I decided to take my ten year old netbook with XP and install Linux on it so I could actually use it again.
One of the main reasons I did this was to get Vivaldi on it again (last version for XP was two or three years ago). So imagine how frustrating it was to see the Vivaldi servers down for the first time I can remember!
Anyway, at the end of the afternoon I was finally able to get it installed and during the evening I was able to get sync again... So eventually my dream was realised.

@mossman So now we have another Nixer here? Yay!!
What distro? What DE or WM?

Lubuntu.
Of course, right after installing it I read that 18.10 was the last version to include 32-bit support... Which is extremely annoying as the L in Lubuntu stands for light and its very existence was originally to maintain support of older hardware!
I have to say that it runs MUCH MUCH better than XP did at the end (it literally took half an hour between booting and being usable - probably due to so much software trying and failing to update in the background) and as well as running Vivaldi no problem, it was also able to smoothly play HD movies from the main PC... something it could never do in XP.

Joy that must have increased with the scare with the Vivaldi question, as soon as that scare was gone.
Yes, absolutely!
Note - I thought Vivaldi still allows the initial download for XP, but in a much earlier version!???
Much much much earlier. It doesn't have sync - I think it might even be before version 1 - so it was not convenient to keep using that.

Hi, can u guys please rework the BACK and FORWARD icons?
I'm using a tan color background & both buttons' icon are either Gray or Black color. These slight differences aren't very clear most of the time, & it's quit difficult for me to tell them apart...
I suggest the thickness of the < > icons should be thicker so that we can easily differentiate the Gray & Black colors, because as of now they are too thin to be able to display enough colors to make Gray standout from Black color.
Thanks.

I'm on Stable build but for some reason I don't have any thumbnails on my Speed Dial page, nor on many websites.

PD: Felicitaciones, buen trabajo.Saludos desde Chile.

Excuse me for not writing in English. But my query refers to the same thing. Well I am a new user of vivaldi "I come from chrome" and in chrome there is a function in which, with the right click, it gives a list, within which this page is translated, I use it from time to time, it would be ideal to add that option.
PD: Congratulations, good job.Greetings from Chile.

Hello! Great update indeed. I'm curious if there is a way to have an option for stacked tabs to show in list view without having to show on/in sidebar? Like instead of the "thumbnails", replace that with a list view directly under the tab stack? If there is such an option, please direct me where! Again, thank you for this release!

Vivaldi has become my main browser after a friend told me about it.
The only thing I'm having issues with are Netflix and HBO. And probably some others that I haven't found yet. For some reason I can't play the videos. It works great on other sites like YouTube and Twitch though, which is weird.
I've tried all the suggestions I can find when googling around, but nothing solves the problem for me.
Which results in me having to switch back and forth from Chrome and Vivaldi.I'm eagerly reading every blog post in hopes of a fix, but it never seems to arrive!
Will this be addressed?
Thank you, and great work! -
I hope this update make the pages load quicker. The last update slowed down page loading by 10 to 20 seconds in some cases and up to 10 seconds 80% of the time.
-
For crying out loud, no more updates. Its running even slower now.
-
@donnytee3022 It runs very fast here. How are you making yours run slow?
-
@jason86: Same problem here too with Windows. It appeared for me on updating to 2.3 from a version some months old. Have not yet updated to 2.4

Positive: it's a start plus the website's title is displayed at the top in the center where it should be displayed.
I could keep messing around in Paint for an hour or two though instead I'm going to simply post a link with images of what a truly customizable GUI looks like: [https://www.fixedfirefox.com/].
I want Vivaldi to succeed and I like having multiple choices though right now I still only have one choice.
- I can't move the tabs bar below the main toolbar, this infers that websites have control instead of the appropriate vice-versa.
- I can't move those shortcuts from the sidebar to the main toolbar so what little customization was added was in that small way pointless.
- I can't add text labels. I'm sitting in front of a 32 inch 4K screen and I have to get a microscope if I want to figure out where to move the mouse to click on a button. Text-labels aren't dumb, in fact not showing text labels is dumb as less/non-technical users won't click on buttons they're not familiar with and that ultimately effects how productive they could be.
- The address bar needs to be above the tabs and below the main toolbar and able to be moved to any toolbar..
- Bookmarks need to be to the right of the address bar and able to be moved to any toolbar.
-
@jabcreations Yeah, Firefox does not have a truly customizable GUI. It's a feeble, pale imitation of the customization that was available in Opera Presto, which Vivaldi aims to surpass. Just give it time.
-
Moved to Vivaldi, now that Firefox is banning Extensions, and doesn't allow to install extensions manually (though they did the former for a while).
Just one question: Is there a way to make the Tab/address Bar thinner?
-
@maxizrin Yes, but there is, in the settings, the UI zoom less than 100% set.

The Address Bar can be disabled. Use the F8 or Ctrl+L shortcut to focus the address field, or use the Quick Commands dialogue (F2) to enter URLs and searches.

@Acarolinensis Problem has been fixed. Previously was getting good at guessing truncated bookmarks. One day there they were in all their glory with plenty of extra space. Guessing this was around vers 2.5. Thank you!
