(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

As soon as you add Chrome extension support, like Opera Blink and full fledged syncing (not just bookmarks, but also passwords, opened tabs, history, etc) I'll use Vivaldi as my new main browser. Regarding syncing, since I don't think that you are going to release a mobile browsers, it would be nice if you could plug into the existing Google sync infrastructure and sync with that, so that I can access all my browsing data using Chrome on my phone and tablet.
I love what you've done so far. If you add those things I'm sure I'll jump on board
Unless I'm mistaken, I think sync requires a server farm to contain the sync'ed data. You are not syncing between disparate copies of the same browser, but rather syncing multiple copies of the browser to a server, which you have signed into. Makes sense. Unless you turn every single copy of the browser into a server itself, or have the browser build a server on your machine (like the Unite service did), how would your various copies of the browser find each other to sync?

I think that a vivaldi mobile will came surely, if Vivaldi will be successful and after it will be stablized.

Why not ?
A form of peer to peer syncing wold be more than welcome. A personal cloud syncing could be another option.
I mean a generic configuration file/folder meant to be exported automatically in any cloud folder, no matter if dropbox, skydrive or a cloud that runs on owner's device, and then imported and/or updated from a mobile device o from another PC.
In that way the two options, running a Vivaldi infrastructure for the purpose (costly and resource consuming) or using a google's server (relying on big brothers' server is not so amazing) could be avoided.

I think this thread is messy as hell since many feature requests are mixed with discussion about certain features. Please consider closing it. Every feature request should have a own thread so its easier to search for already suggested things and to follow a discussion. This also allows measurement for user interest via replies/views. A great measurement tool would be some kind of up/down vote feature. Just like on Stackexchange.

Just thought it could be cool if you could set new windows to open with a tab group or even just save tab groups as favorites and open them like a bookmark?
For work I always end up grouping time tracking/project management sites and leaving them open if I close the window like an idiot, I then need to go to each one individually when I open a new window and then regroup, etc.
Thought maybe I'm not the only out there that could use this feature?
Just an idea… Really digging the browser.

Regarding mouse gestures:
They are awesome, but lacking.
1- Needs to be able to open a new tab with the mouse down gesture, but have it disabled on the speed dial to avoid opening more than one new tab.
2- Needs to be able to close the speed dial with mouse down right gesture.
3- Needs to be able to reconfigure the mouse gesture as we wish. From making new ones to modifying the existing ones.Still on the Speed Dial, the Bookmark menu there should be resizable (up and down) and when lowered down a bit, show the last opened speed dial shortcuts/folder. Have a setting to remember the size of it by the user.

Please oh please, make a good way to handle lots of bookmark. Firefox has a nice system with tags, that I have been longing for every since I switched to google chrome.
However, the superior android app has kept me coming back to chrome, but silently every night I cry myself to sleep thinking about my over 2000 bookmarks being so unorganized.

the tab stacking is really convenient however when more than two tabs are stacked it is difficult to see the page titles especially when you have forum tabs stacked as each tab will begin with(in this case on these forums) "Vivaldi.net - Vivaldi Forum - Topic:…" meaning the topic title is lost because the page title is too long. may i suggest a full page preview when you hover over the various tab previews in a tab stack ? so if you hover over a thumbnail of a tab in a tab stack, the page you are currently viewing will correspond to the tab you are currently hovering over.

Find in Page :
it's working fine but it needs some tweaks… it should work just like Opera 12.X used to : when it finds a word, all the page except the word should fade to black (well... not black... grey I mean...) to let us easily distinguish its place between other words.
-
Please add H264/MP4 video codec - support !
Vivaldi is a very interesting project, but without support for H264/MP4 (or better still: H265/HEVC), I can't use the browser at the moment… unfortunately -

Indeed. Opera 12 making the screen dim was great. Vivaldi showing the instances with the lines in the scroll area is nice. But we need the dimming of the page.

I will recommend Vivaldi to all my friends and family, …
I recommended Opera to family members. Then Opera changed. As soon as Vivaldi matures I'll get them to use it. I think word of mouth will do a lot to spread Vivaldi.

Please, add confirmation before delete anything (bookmarks, notes etc) or close browser and option for disable it behavior (checkbox "Don't ask me again" in confirmation dialog).

@RRR13:
Also for closing Vivaldi. I love that close confirmation dialog in Opera.
And +1 to this as well.

Please work on having a full sync in Vivaldi, including passwords and sessions. This was the most requested feature on Opera Desktop Blog comments.
Also, the tabs should touch the top of the screen. When clicking on them, its easier to just move the mouse to the top of the screen and click.

1. Open in Background tab
Add a 'Open in background tab' option in the context sensitive menu when you right mouse click on a link in page
2. Display folder when searching bookmarks
Many times when searching a bookmark i would like to know what folder it is stored in
3. Simple color themes
Choice of simple alternative color themes. The red on the current active tab now is too distracting -
- "Plugin on demand" - that was a really nice feature of the old Opera, all flash and active-x and so on frames only run after click No more freaking autoplaying videos! I know there are add-ons for this but they all tend to be glitchy and not working some times
+1
I totally agree and posted the something very similar, here.In 1996 "no images, no javascript, no plug-in" were vital options to limit bandwidth usage and make the pages more simple to read (and secure, also), today, 20 years later, we need to have the choice to filter what is used today.

will i be able to transfer all my pages if
i got opera and my speed dials(and maybe also boomarks,…) are not in sync with those on web.
(i want to transfer that which i have now offline...) -

I mentioned this elsewhere and a CSS hack to achieve it. But now I see the tabs don't go right to the top because the tab stack indicators sit on the tab. But that should not prevent the programmers from making the tab selectable when the mouse is tight to the edge of the screen.

I tried searching for Bookmarks and very few hits was returned. I reckon my request is fair to advertise then.
I'd like to see a decent bookmarks manager that enables me to sort alphabetically, by date or by wildcard to filter by url or display name of the bookmarks. That way it would be easy to tidy up a large and messy collection of bookmarks
