Import and Export Themes
-
@luetage If i remember correctly it depends on how you view the settings page, if in pop-up it works with window.html, if in a tab it works with browser.html. This was discussed some time ago.
However i use window.html for some time and it works properly.

Importing and exporting themes is finally implemented. This mod no longer works on snapshot and I will archive it. The new theme interface still has no way to move themes, order themes, or hide system themes. These three features could go into a new mod to enhance the interface and functionality.

Just installed this. I've been hoping there was some way to back up all the themes I had installed in case my computer died and I had to install Vivaldi on a new one.
I was looking forward to installing them one by one again.

@fred8615 That’s how it used to work, but modern themes all have individual backgrounds, which can’t be backed up by a modification. Personally I have just a couple of my own themes, which I save to my desktop and I load a few themes from Vivaldi’s theme page. The other features from this mod went into a new mod, which works fine on the newer Vivaldi versions ☛ https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/531981
edit: And yes, the mod in the original post is archived, it doesn’t work at all anymore, just to make this clear. Simply delete it.

@luetage Oh phooey. Do you know where the themes are? Maybe I can back up that folder/file?
-
@fred8615 I wouldn’t, there’s no way to assure your backup will work on a newer version. Moreover there is no themes file, it’s partly backed into the preferences file and the backgrounds are somewhere else. You could backup your whole profile… But parts of it aren’t really guaranteed to work on other devices and future versions. Using the existing »export theme« backup functionality is the best you can do really.

@luetage Each individually by hand? There goes a whole day.

Hello, everybody!
With the current Vivaldi version (5.7.2921.65 (Stable channel) (64 bits)) the export works, a zip file is created. However, for example, after a reinstallation, the import doesn’t go, in vain do I select the previously exported zip file. The Import button enters a window to select the saved zip file - as normal -, but after pressing the Open button, this window disappears but does not import anything.
I think this is a bug!
Thank you
Zoltán

Vivaldi changed the backend, implemented import/export and introduced a theme store. This mod cannot work anymore. I created a new mod for the interface alone ☛ https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/531981.

@mib2berlin Thank you for the response.
OK, it works the in case of embedded themes, but no in case my theme saved more or less a week before. No popup window!

@luetage Dear @luteage I have been following your posts on the theme export topic hoping for a solution to a problem I'm having.
I have about 500+ themes saved on my vivaldi browser with a setup that follows time across the day which then varies the themes.
Unfortunately my linux system bootloader is broken and after 4 months of wrestling with recovery modes failing and using compatibility mode to compensate, I finally need to reinstall the OS.
Unfortunately the only sentimental reason standing in my way of doing so immediately is that I have so many vivaldi themes I painstakingly gathered, which are going to be lost haha, pathetic reason but I love my themes that much.
I have been following your posts for this reason, not just yours but across the internet, but could not find a way. I've tried a number of methods.
What I need is a way, any way even slightly convoluted or even if it's minimally useful, to save my themes so that I can restore them upon OS reinstall, e.g.
- Simple list of all the named themes saved so that I can manually restore them one by one from the vivaldi theme store
or - Access to the exact path of the vivaldi folder on my machine that stores all the themes so that I can copy paste the entire folder into storage later
or - Export the themes in bulk (it's too much to do them individually and the vivaldi browser itself seems to take a toll on my memory usage on this pc)
Is there any possibility that you can assist me in any way with any of these or other methods please? I would be truly quite grateful
Kindly,

@TiG3R0Fly9Spaceship This theme export script was created before the release of the Vivaldi theme page and before we had custom icons and startpage backgrounds saved inside themes. The script is therefore useless and the project is unsupported. The best way to backup themes is to export them from the settings page and save them as zip file, Vivaldi provides this option. This is of course tedious with 500 themes, maybe someone has a better idea. You can find the links to your themes and their settings in the
preferences
file in your profile folder.
