Option to Always Reuse Active Tab

This is equivalent of Right-click, Open Link, which opens all links in the current tab, even if the link target is "New Window."

With this option enabled,

Shift+Click would still open a link in a new tab
Ctrl+Click and Middle-click would still open a link in a new background tab
Right-click menu items would function as normal
Mouse gestures would function however they are defined
Left-click on link would always open the link in the active tab

This can be achieved with a script. It might not be a perfect solution, but it's better than nothing.

Is there any update on this old but gold feature request, please? Vivaldi goes to great lenghts managing too many open tabs, but it doesn‘t prevent the reason for too many tabs. Firefox does and this single one feature is reason enough to stay with Firefox, which is sad because Vivaldi is better in many other aspects, but this one is a show stopper, so please please finally implement this quick-win for an otherwise great browser, ok!?

Are there any updates or work arounds on this yet?

Whenever I use Quick Commands, everything launches in a new tab instead of re-using the existing tab. Really dislike the current behaviour.

Did I miss out any settings that I ought to amend or do we have to rely on this modded script? I recall there was an Option in Opera to reuse existing tab previously.

Android needs it too.

It's 2023 and tab abuse just gets worse and worse year after year as each successive generation of web designers is told that using target="_blank" is always the best thing to do. It ruins Vivaldi's advanced tab management features, it ruins web panels, and addons can't seem to keep tab abuse under control any more.

Not to be rude, but if another browser implemented this feature I'd drop Vivaldi in a heartbeat. Tab management has gotten that painful, and the overwhelming majority of my tabs were spawned without any intent on my part.
