Vivaldi now includes Qwant, a search engine that respects your privacy

@mossman said in Vivaldi now includes Qwant, a search engine that respects your privacy:
It may sound trivial but I wish they had a dark theme like DuckDuckGo.
Funny... I just knew this would be a French thing, looked it up and of course it is. Always have to have their own version of things... LOL
I have already proposed it on the suggestions page in QWant
-
Nice! Downloaded, installed and shared.

@reddy-shyam every partnership is of crucial importance for Vivaldi, they can't live out of thin air. By using the search engines Vivaldi have partnership with, you can help them gain some more money and hopefully increase the dev team to make it better. So yes, it's quite important to them to release a minor update even if that's just for adding a search engine.

What is the suggest url? I have tried this, found in another thread
https://api.qwant.com/api/suggest/?q=%s&client=opensearch
doesn't seem to work here. I'd like to have it added to my 1.16 snapshot version aswell. -
@ian-coog The installed one with the update is
https://api.qwant.com/api/suggest/?q=%s&client=opensearch&lang=en_gbedit: You're right. It doesn't seem to work.
-
@ayespy seems like it's "working" but it's not actually sending anything else than
"status":"success","data":{"items":[]}} -
-
@domydima Of course if you do that, Vivaldi no longer benefits in any way from the association. And, that procedure does not install the suggest URL, which is what the user was asking about.
-
@ayespy: sorry my mistake.
-
That's great!
I will use the vivaldi url for the Qwant search on other browsers!!
xDDDAny tip on how to combine the Suggestions Api url!?
Jajajaj

@ian-coog , thanks for the clairification. If for financial implications, then surely and definitely.
-
@reddy-shyam: I totally agree with you on this, it should have waited till a new significant release was ready to go, also i dont understand why all this talk about privacy when unsafe search engines are offered inside vivaldi, if privacy is so important to you then quit offering those unsafe services that harm users and that you contribute to make a profit when you have them inside the browser (you and every other browser devs who preach the same should do this) otherwise it's just BLATANT hypocrisy.
-
@felipefpl Vivaldi is not dogmatic about privacy - they merely seek to offer options across the spectrum - and do not, themselves, collect or sell data.
-
Nice addition
-
@ayespy: I'm using
https://api.qwant.com/api/suggest/?q=%s&client=opensearch
, and it seems to work correctly at the time I write this answer.
[modedit] Code for URl in inline code formatted.
See http://commonmark.org/help/tutorial/09-code.html
Please do not post as URL as some characters may get wrong encoded. -
Big mistake! ! ! The version is not stable! ! ! I'm Tired . . .
-
@voldemar227 luckily Microsoft seems to have fixed that specific Windows 10 issue by the end of this year.
-
@guilimote Several testers, developers and myself worked with it over a number of hours yesterday. None of us could get it to work properly, or in any useful way.
-
@ayespy Still works for me just now, at least on 1.15 stable, with suggestion URL filled manually, and with Qwant auto-redirecting me to the french version of their results. (manually filled because already configured before the last Vivaldi update)
For example, if I enter "
mi
", Qwant will suggest me "michelin
,midi libre
, ..."
-
@guilimote for us internally nothing after the first two letters produced anything, and a different search soon thereafter either produced nothing or the exact same suggestions as the first search.
