Engine update - Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.5.638.3
-
Going back to FF to hard to use not being able to read 1/4 of UI and no cursor…you'd think chrome would check these things out BEFORE releasing.
-
What system are you on?
Because I can't confirm this behaviour for Win 7 64bit and Snapshot 1.5.638.3 32bit.
This bug is an old one that (as far as I know) was killed about a year ago and back then it didn't appeared on all systems.
You might want to file a bugreport on this https://vivaldi.com/bugreport -
This release very buggy for me… Office 365 mail is almost unusable (hotkeys ignored, having to reload site a lot), anything with an input field sometimes has a cursor and sometimes not (this applies to any site it seems).
Startup time can still be minutes sometimes, and 10 seconds or so at best. -
I'm experiencing some really weird issues on my desktop pc. First one, youtube videos are freezing the browser when seeking occasionally. The second one is really strange, the writing pointer disappears completely when commenting on Facebook posts. On my laptop this build works completely fine. Maybe it has something to do with the full hd resolution on the desktop (or maybe it's time for a clean profile).
Both systems are running Vivaldi 64bit on Windows 10.

Did neither of Aronand's suggestions work for you?
-
The cursor issue is a known one, I also believe the hotkeys issue is known too, hopefully we have a fix for them soon

Thanks 3Phase. I was astonished nobody else seemed affected by this bug, at least not enough to post about it, so i'm grateful that you did [now i can revert to my standard rather than elevated levels of concern at my sanity]. I made the bug report, but don't know the number of it.
Ooh, brilliant, no sooner had i written that previous clause, when the email arrived:
"–-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue Collector created VB-22358:Summary: UI Scale <100% freezes Vivaldi when navigating Bookmarks & Notes Panels.
Key: VB-22358
Project: Vivaldi BrowserUI Scale <100% freezes Vivaldi when navigating Bookmarks & Notes Panels.
Steps to reproduce:
If i set UI Scale to <100%, both Bookmarks & Notes panels become unusable, & so does V... attempting to scroll up or down in either, causes a veeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrry long lag to occur, during which V itself freezes. Resetting UI Scale to 100%, or choosing anything >100%, works perfectly well.Address (URL) of faulty page:
Bookmarks & Notes Panels.Expected behaviour:
No freezes, irrespective of UI Scale. Worked fine until latest SS 1.5.638.3 dev (64-bit).Actual behaviour:
V freezes. 3Phase has confirmed that it also occurs in Windows 10 x64 | Vivaldi x64 and x86.Vivaldi version:
1.5.638.3Operating System:
Linux x86.64" -
In some textboxes, including this one I'm currently using here (but first noticed it yesterday with the Youtube search box) the cursor disappears, sometimes comes back but I haven't figured how what causes the re-appearing.
Some other issue I had when I tried to edit (CTRL-A, DEL => start over, typing it anew) the text I was typing yesterday in one of those textboxes, the CTRL-A highlighted the text but the DEL did not delete it.
Win7/64, Vivaldi 1.5.638.3 32-Bit with a plethora of extensions, Radeon HD6850, 1920x1200
// Ok, I just read a bit of this thread, so it's switching tabs to fix the vanishing cursor issue until it's resolved. At least a workaround

There is a problem in this version with Disqus. It takes ages to open and it's very-very difficult to log-in!
Update Problem solved! An extension caused it! Sorry! -
Yeah, something like that. Actually I'm considering the current features, when, for example, you RMC (sorry for the typo above) or press Ctrl+D in a page and the pop up that already appears when you click on the icon in address bar would appear the same way. Then you would set the bookamark up as you wish. But your ideas are like a extension to this, very nice.
Other thing is still missing related to this feature is, during the bookmark process, we can add and delete folders, move and rename them, all inside that pop up window (or whatever feature they may make). I hope it is in their plans for a medium term at least…
-
The disappearing cursor is a known issue.
-
But what program are you using to see the processes? What I just described is just for Process Explorer… Have you tried it?
-
At last we have "Search with"! Nice work! What would be even greater, however, is if we could invoke it with a shortcut (like in old Opera) - select text, press key to show menu, press another key to search with an engine.

Hi. I just discovered a reproducible crash with Vivaldi 1.5.633.3 on OS X 10.11.6. (I'm posting here since it’s still the most current snapshot available.)
I was editing my current theme and wanted to change the Highlight colour to something that was as close to native as possible. I clicked on the Show system color picker icon, then selected Color Palettes / Developer / selectedMenuItemColor.
Selecting any colour from the Developer palette triggers an immediate crash. The other colour palettes work fine; so do the other sections of the Color Picker that I’ve tried so far.
Here’s an excerpt from the Diagnostic Report:
Crashed Thread: 0 CrBrowserMain Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000Application Specific Information:
Crashing on exception: *** -colorSpace not valid for the NSColor NSNamedColorSpace System selectedMenuItemColor; need to first convert colorspace. -
Yes, yes: good ideas. I too hope they pour lots of love into bookmarks eventually. I am managing presently but this is the area I need advancements more than others because I am an organizer.

Something else just happened on a 2nd PC running the lastest Vivaldi 32 Snapshot (also Win7/64bit). The session + most extensions crash when launching the golf game Shotonline from Gamescampus.com.
Now they use GameGuard NProtect, that could be regarded rootkit-ish, however while that particular game is running I can't browse the internet any more. Strangely e.g. the latest Opera works, IE as well.
I disabled/removed/downgraded my Comodo firewall in which I first only disabled the FW itselt and then their HIPS (some heuristic, anti-this, anti-that, shellcode injections etc.). No change.
So there are workarounds for the meantime while I'll observe further. -
Yes, procexp and taskmgr. Very strange.
It's installed in %localappdata%\Vivaldi\ as well. -
Yeah, very strange… Does it look like this?

Posted to wrong blog thread.

Like this:
I updated it, it closed all processes and created the new folder and new_vivaldi.exe but it didn't remove vivaldi.exe as it was in use by system somehow. There were no vivaldi.exe processes running, the only thing I found was when using OpenedFilesView.
The system process is hooking it now too (when closed), so it's doing something that won't release it.
