Snapshot 1.0.385.5 - Changes to tab opening and closing behaviour
-
Yep, I suspected this was what you actually wanted. Your bug is indeed closed.
-
Can you confirm that you have "focus follows mouse" set in your window manager?
-
As I explained in the blog post above our implementation is similar but not identical to the other browsers. We also take account of activation order as a fall back after relationships in an attempt to give a best of both worlds option. We are not simply copying the other browsers but rather trying to improve on them.
In addition, besides Firefox and Opera 12 we are the only other browser that I am aware of who are offering native options to change this to suite your behaviour, so I hope it is clear this is not about dumbing down the browser but in fact the opposite.
-
The hotkey to open Developer tools doesn't work on mac. The Tools menu item blinks, but devtools don't open. If I click the menu item, it works though.
-
The new tab opening order caught me by surprise a bit. I would appreciate more customisation options so I can make all tabs appear to the right of the current tab, like it worked right before this update if you had that selected! Right now I can only open tabs either at the end of the current relationship or at the end of the tab line, so that behaviour (opening tabs next to active) is no longer an option.
-
We have no intention of turning into Chrome. I hope that a look at our feature set and the options we expose would make this clear.
If not take it from me. We do not intend to be a Chrome clone.
-
No plans to ape Chrome and plenty of plans to continue to provide options

We changed this setting from "Right of Current Tab" to "Next To Related Tabs" because it became obvious that most of the people requesting "Right of Current Tab" actually wanted something akin to the other browsers.
However, we could indeed add back "Right of current tab". Before we do so can you clarify exactly what you expect this setting to do. By that I mean it should it open immediately to the right for tabs opened from another tab (e.g. Ctrl+click) AND also if you issue Ctrl+t or click on the "+" icon with a mouse. Or should tabs opened from Ctrl+t or by clicking on the "+" icon still open at the end?
P.S. The current bug number for tracking this request is VB-12674. When it is clear what people need you can look out for it in the changelog.
-
We are!!! We changed "Right of Current Tab" into "Next To Related Tabs" because it became clear from follow up bug reports that this is what many of the people who initially requested this were actually after.
However, if there are people (and it seems there are) who want a pure "Right of Current Tab" we can add it back (since we are all about options!).
The only thing I need clarified from the people requesting is if they expect it to open to the immediate right of the current tab in all cases (even when clicking "+" or issuing Ctrl+t). You might think this is obvious but experience tells me that people interpret these things in different ways.
-
If you want it to always flip back to your webmail tab in your scenario then you set the closing tab behaviour to be "Activate previous in activation order". Then the sibling relationships would not be considered and you would be going back to webmail each time because it was the last one activated.
-
Indeed the long term plan it to make stuff like this possible but it is not something we are likely to add before version 1. In the future of course we intend to make even more stuff (like this) possible.
-
Really pleased to see that you are pleased!
-
We are not done yet. Though to be honest it is unlikely such things will appear in version 1. however I hope we have already demonstrated that our direction is to add more options like those you request

The new 'Relative' tabs feature is awesome for me… it automatically results in tabs being grouped together which is more than enough when you have many tabs from many domains...
1. Setting a high quality Wallpaper (like a 10MB one) makes switching pages sluggish… I need someone to confirm this... just set a large and high quality Wallpaper and check if switching tabs now takes longer or not ?
2. Setting a high quality Wallpaper makes the 'Settings' page heavy… clicking on the 'Start Page' or 'Display All' options will become slow especially if the wallpaper is big...
Thank you...

Same here.
didn't show. {waggle waggle} and, as with previous versions, they show again - for a while.My TabsPosition > Right-side.

Nooooo!
If Tabs open to the right of the current one, they'll be off my screen!
(I have TabsPostion>RightSide)
-
+1 for "always on the right" (im not using it, but somebody else complained)

Something EXTREMALLY annoying with vivaldi is that if I have more than one Vivaldi Window and I click some external link - Vivaldi correctly handles only first link clicked since Vivaldi is open. I mean:
1st click:- 1st window is focused, tab is opened inside first window
2nd and next clicks:
- 1st window is focused, tab is opened inside 2nd window
I currently don't care if new link would open inside 1st window, or last window, or last-used window - make it AT LEAST open in the same window that gets focused and brought to the front…
This happens since like always (I'm not sure). Shouldn't be THAT much to fix, and I bet there is no way to actually miss that this bug exists.
Anyone can confirm?

Great that you're working on closing and opening options, wouldn't it have been the perfect time to add an option for VB-10739 [Mac] Closing the last tab should close the window? It would be great if there was an option so that closing the last tab just took you to your designated start page instead of closing the whole window, particularly annoying if you're working with the tab bar hidden. Of course many people would find that behaviour odd but it would be fantastic if it was just an option.
