Snapshot 1.0.385.5 - Changes to tab opening and closing behaviour
-
Mine has been stalling at that for several snapshots now. They always complete when I resume the donwnload. Bit of an odd bug.
-
"I hope it doesn't turn eventually into Chrome." All indications are that it will do rather the reverse. Although more "Chrome-like" options will become available, the ability to structure image, form and function to be totally UNLIKE Chrome will only increase.
-
I meant that it was odd that one of the reasons why you've stuck with Opera 11 is because of an option that you dislike being set as default, despite the fact that it can be changed to do it the way that you want it done. It seems odd that a few seconds to change an option has kept you with Opera 11.
However, I do agree with you that it shouldn't restrict itself into aping Chrome (which it currently isn't doing), but as long as it gives us options to customise its behaviour, then I'm fine.

No, I mean that when you have a tab selected, there should be an option to half-brightness highlight all of the related tabs. For instance, suppose you have tab X_0, with tabs X_1,…,X_n that were spawned from tab X, and a tab Y to the right of tab X_0 before spawning the X_i. Then suppose that tab X_1 was dragged to the right of tab Y. If you then activate tab Y, then tab X_1 and close tab X_1, you will unexpectedly end up at some tab X_i.
That is, there is no visual indicator of what "related tab group" you are currently in if the related tabs are moved around. So my proposal would be to have some kind of visual indicator that you are in a group of related tabs, and that when you close one, you will stay within the group. This could be a slightly brighter/darker shade than the active tab, but slightly darker/brighter (respectively) than an inactive tab.

First of all thanks for the new build.
I noticed that in this build using the middle mouse button on a bookmark folder (in the bookmark sidebar) opens all bookmarks in the folder, and also all bookmarks in subfolders. The previous behaviour was to only open those in the folder the middle mouse button was used on. Is this a change or a bug and if it is a change, is there a way to get the old behaviour back? I can't seem to find a setting for it.

Bring back "Right of Current Tab" , please.
-
The Opera team liked your idea of Mute Tabs so much that they copied it in Opera 35 released today.
-
Mine has been doing the same. I'd say it started some time around Beta 2. Maybe earlier.
-
Why would they add an option and then take away an option? I thought they were all about options.
-
Sweet! I've been advocating that the tabs needed to work like it does in other browsers, so it's nice to see this implemented! Also nice to see VB-11903 squashed, it was kind of getting annoying. Keep those bug fixes coming!
-
Yeah, and they added a "mute other tabs" option in the context menu, which is actually really nice. I wish Vivaldi did that too.
-
I don't like new "Next To Related Tabs" option, I need "Right of Current Tab"!
I agree (obviously there should still be an option for those that like the related tab).
I think the use scenario is, say you have a webmail tab open all the time, like the Vivaldi webmail page. Then you open 20 pages from your speed dial and close the speed dial page.
Each time you close one of the 20 pages you opened from speed dial, it will switch back to the Vivaldi webmail tab (because it was the last activated and there are no parent tabs). This creates 20 extra clicks I need to do when I want to view the 20 tabs I just opened. For my use scenario, I'd like to keep the Vivaldi webmail tab open and not switch back to it, but browse through the 20 tabs I opened from left to right.

First thought: "OMG, this tab closing was SO unnerving, they fixed it!" Quick look: "Dammit, they ALMOST fixed it…" Guys, is it really so much trouble to add "Just activate next in line" in "When closing a tab" options? It's simple solution and best for many users. What you added this time is the second best option.
Anyway, you are making very fast progress, big THANK YOU!
Any chance you will add possibility to view at least some basic information about picture (resolution, format, size) after right click on image?

oh… so track all tabs origin? (looking for some type 'X_0' and tabs opened from that one?)... I can see that some would love to know but that's not me tbh. I can also imagine some performance issues when it go deeper like X_0.3.1.2.2.5 (tree structure - the last tab's origin relation with X_0, imagine a family looking for Adam and Eve there). In general some ppl do use more than 10, 100 tabs... looking for domain origin is more natural and easier I guess.
So I'd love to see visually detached tabs which are similar by domain more than by an origin tab…

Vivaldi Changing OS because it was messing with Vivaldi.
Vivaldi fan award!!
-
Guys, we will add a separate option for this, but today you can turn off gestures fully.
Cheers,
Jon. -
Also, 'Switch to New tab immediately' option pleaseee.
I usually go through a list of search results, go 'right click+open in new tab', 'right click+open in new tab', 'right click+open in new tab'….... and then open the tabs at leisure.
I could achieve that by doing ctrl+click on each link but my left hand is always busy feeding me chips.

Thank you very much for giving this browser. Keep up the great work. Love Vivaldi and like you, I too LOVE options.
Feature Request:
- Custom colors for tabs based on the site. This would really be helpful to distinguish my dev, stage and prod environments and avoid misplaced commands.
- Theme based context menu, bookmark dropdown, settings window
- 'Switch to New tab immediately' option.
- Close tabs to the Right option
- Better support for google hangout app (so I can ditch chrome completely
).
Bug:
- Page Reload: Sometimes vivaldi just does not reload the page when I hit enter on the url or refresh. It does not crash but just does not do anything. The url bar color stays in light grey (dark theme). At this time I have to close the tab and open a new tab, paste+enter the url. vivaldi loads the page without any problems. Had this bad experience often. Win7x64-Vivaldix64

Thanks, Dovelove. FF did the trick. Now I'll try to install it.

I mean, you could do it as a tree, or you could do it as a flat grouping, in that tabs spawned from a tab already in a tab-group just joins the tab group. My understanding is that all tabs do currently have their origin tab tracked. I am just asking for a visual indication of this.
