Vivaldi 6.8 on Android – New ways to make the browser match you and updated Ad Blocker
-
Reverted to 6.7 because it doesn't work anymore after changing the wallpaper.
Please, test it before releasing. Goddamn.
-
@Veddu Thanks, I appreciate it! Vivaldi is really not like other companies

It didn't work.
probably because vivaldi uses adblock plus synthax for rules, and my rule is for ublock origin, which uses a different synthax.
about nextdns, I was skeptical because hiding promoted ads needs cosmetic filtering, which can't be done with a dns adblocker.
anyway I tried it and it's not working. -
This update is taking an age to come through. Keep checking thinking surely it must be here now. Come on Google. Need to open a New Tab now.
-
That is really odd…
So you are using only these lists
@Veddu said in Vivaldi 6.8 on Android – New ways to make the browser match you and updated Ad Blocker:
It didn't work. However I still find it akward that you still see promoted ads on reddit and I don't on android nor on iOS...
Could it be that you are signed in and using an account? Maybe try clearing the cache on reddit?
For me, I have the following adblocker lists enabled in Android:
ABP- anticircumvention list
Adblock warning removal list
Easylist
Fanboy Annoyances list
Regional filter list (Dandelion sprout Nordic filterlist)
Brave Unbreak filterlist
Brave Android Specific
Brave first partyAnd then I have a nextDNS profile for blocking ads on DNS level with Hagezi Multi pro filterlist.
And I have not seen any promoted ads on reddit yet.
And nothing more?

@ourostra It's a shame this hasn't been fixed yet. It's extremely inconvenient.
For others reading this. You can still use Vivaldi, but you cannot open a blank tab.
So if you can't start Vivaldi because it's starting with a blank tab. Open some other app and open link that opens in Vivaldi (a link in an email could work or most apps have an online privacy statement you can open). You can then reuse that tab for browsing. -
@RoelVB
Hi, there is a new version fixed the bug for me but it is not in the Playstore at moment.
You can download it and update manually from: https://vivaldi.com/blog/Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin The PlayStore has been taking an astonishingly long time to approve and post some of Vivaldi's builds. It can sometimes take more than a week, while users are out here panting for a fix, and Vivaldi has already fixed the issue.
-
@Ayespy
Yes, it's 4 or 5 days now, this is not good for the Vivaldi team. -
@Ayespy Yes, that is unfortunately the situation we find ourselves in.
-
I installed the update by downloading directly from the Vivaldi website and it works amazing!
I bet the 4th of July being last week slowed things down on Google's end for approving updates (assuming there's any human interaction at all lol)
-
@RiveDroite Thanks, didn't know we could download from site directly. How do I find out whether I currently have 32 bit version or 64 bit, can't see it in About.
And why is 32 bit default ?
-
@dpn You can download the 64 bit here: https://downloads.vivaldi.com/stable/Vivaldi.6.8.3388.94_arm64-v8a.apk
As shown here, you can find the different ones:

This post is deleted! -
For some reason, when I type google.sk or www.google.sk into addressbar, it won't save. I need to write it every time. I didn't changed anything, it used to be working and used to be saved in history.
-
@lazymonkey2 You may want to try patching one of the old third-party Reddit clients (I use Sync). I've been using it since they kicked third-party clients off the platform. No ads, no limits. Just a much better experience.

What happened to the dark mode on/off in menu bar? It seems to be gone. I have to go in to settings to switch on off. A big step back, as some sites simply doesn't display webpages correct in dark mode.
-
@ymstnt0: Agree. Used this toggle every day.
-
@jbcrib
Hi, this is a regression, please read the post of a Vivaldi team member on page 3, it's the last one.Cheers, mib

Why is the setting to change the User Interface Zoom under "Web Pages" and then Accessibility?
Had this changed some time ago and was now searching for 5 minutes to find it again.
Shouldn't it rather be under "Appearance"?
Also your login / register buttons below the blog post are broken on firefox desktop, vivaldi desktop and vivaldi android mobile, you just can't login and thus can't write a comment.
