Manifest v3 update: Vivaldi is future-proofed with its built-in functionality
-
@Catweazle I'm still using uBO on Vivaldi. Figured I'd wait until it's KOed before adopting another solution.
However, a few months ago, I did experiment on YT videos on Chrome. I have this installed, I rarely use it but thought it would be good for this experiment. I tried uBO Lite and it failed and also just didn't seem to operate smoothly at all. But AdGuard Mv3 did. I didn't test exhaustively though, but I'll likely try that in Vivaldi once uBO is no longer an option.

@barbudo2005. Im aware that it isn't recommended two different adblockers at the same time, but it's fact that the Vivaldi blocker works fine, but is discovered by YT, which block the Videos with it.
uBO light is crap, not blocking even most ads and also no trackers (Cover your Tracks test). but in change hide the presence to the YT anti-adblock, what Vivaldi currently can't.
The rest are Filterlists, maybe even different ones, which are obviously not enter in conflict one with the other. But both together block all ads in YT, without any issue, Test in Tools shows 100%.
Certainly Vivaldi blocker + another powerfull adblocker, like uBO or ABP may cause problems or conflicts, but not with this placebo blocker light, with the anti-adblock algorrithm as the only thing that really works.
Anybody is free to test it by themself, for me it works flawless.

As usual you don't take ownership of the issues that are brought to your attention, and you have nothing better than to say uBO Light is crap.
I tested it for months on both domestic and international sites and did not see one ad.
You have the audacity and gall to offend Gorhill creator of uBO, saying that his adblocker is placebo, taking the tests as proof and not real life. How can he be able to adblock YouTube and be crap at everything else with 11 years of uBO experience. Sounds ridiculous.
I remember @mib2berlin using it:
Mib how many months have you used it?
How many ads have you seen in this period?It would be nice to know your opinion.

@barbudo2005
Many month with no issues, I use it in the snapshot and an internal build.
In stable I use the internal and a script for Youtube because I use my crap YT account there.
Sometimes I have both enabled but didn't notice it for some days, I guess this wouldn't work with uBlock Origin and the internal.
I think it was a bit hard to say uBO Light is crap, for me it is fine. -
@barbudo2005, yes uBOl block ads (tested 67%), but don't really block trackers (also tested as anything I use) which is much worse (1). uBO is the best blocker without a doubt, but even the Vivadi blocker is way better as uBOL, except for the anti-adblock algorrithm, which I hope will be implemented in Vivaldi in the future. Meanwhile uBOL is only a workarround for me.
(1) Test Vivaldi, only with uBOL
Not valid for me to stay only with the "Do not track" wish in the Vivaldi settings.

@Catweazle
Hm, I get completely different results:
Ad blocking 96%
Tracking Protection: Detect
Anyway, it's getting interesting at the point when Chromium stop the support of V2 extensions and how far the Vivaldi ad blocker is then, for example script integration. -
@mib2berlin, we'll see, but I think that the inbuild blocker won't be affected. But well possible that Google won't allow extension which block its trackers in the store. This is maybe the reason because uBOL don't have, because it goes against the interests of Googles business model.
As said in another thread, in question security and privacy I don't trust the Chrome store anymore, since even scripts (related to YT) from a userscript manager were deleted some time ago which I installed direct as extension because of this. Google can't access locally stored scripts and files in my PC, but those pointing to the store. If Google gut or delete extension there, they are also crippled or deleted in Vivaldi. -

Why on earth is vivaldi basing its code on decisions made and controlled by google? What a disappointment.
Guess this is my last post here, because honestly, making ublock origin disfunctional is a really OBVIOUS play by corporate capitalists, and trust me, like with elon and trump, or the entire AUKUS NATO war machine for that matter; they do not have our well-being in mind, they're sociopaths who could not care less about humanity or our future on earth. -
@liefde, which other would you use? Mv2 will die sooner or later, yes or yes, and with this also uBO Mv2. Currently Every browser on the market depends direct or indirect on Google, Firefox even more than Vivaldi, or on other big corporations (Apple, M$...). Depending the use of an browser only on an extension don't make sense.

Vivaldi and most companys simply dont have the funding or time to develope Multiple YEARS a new Webbrowser from the ground up.
