Duplicating attachments upon Forwarding
-
Another peculiarity - when I forward my designer's emails, the attachments get duplicated
-
Failed to reproduce when forwarding an email with a few JPEG attachments. Is the issue occurring for all attachments types or a particular one?
-
Please see attached clip
-
It might be related to this particular sender.
I had another issue with her - sometimes her attachments were duplicated upon receival - although she says she didn't do it. -
@Shoham as a wild guess, maybe this is about how the attachments are included in the email, i.e. if there is some duplication of the information that the attachment is attached. Could you check the raw message body (right-click the message header) and choose "show raw message", and then look for the lines that are something like
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
boundary="006_FR0P281M[........]DEUP"As far as I understand how these things work, for every attachment there is such a Content-Type definition up there in the header and the boundary is used for clients to understand where the attachment data starts & ends.
So my wild guess is that the original email contains the data once but the boundaries appear twice for every attachment, and when the email is forwarded Vivaldi adds the attachments for every noted section. Again, super wild guess.

@WildEnte said in Duplicating attachments upon Forwarding:
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
I'm looking at one of these auto-duplicating attachment emails.
I see two entries similar to the one you described:
Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="000000000000ae88210619f7ea2c"
and
--000000000000ae88210619f7ea2c Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="000000000000ae881f0619f7ea2a"
[I included the line prior because maybe it has significance]
And then three attachments like this -
--000000000000ae88210619f7ea2c Content-Type: application/pdf; name="PDF_Solutions Overview_OPEN_3.6.24.pdf" Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="PDF_Solutions Overview_OPEN_3.6.24.pdf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: <f_lwyp279j1> X-Attachment-Id: f_lwyp279j1
--000000000000ae88210619f7ea2c Content-Type: application/pdf; name="PDF_Solutions Overview_WEB_3.6.24.pdf" Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="PDF_Solutions Overview_WEB_3.6.24.pdf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: <f_lwyp279g0> X-Attachment-Id: f_lwyp279g0
--000000000000ae88210619f7ea2c Content-Type: application/pdf; name="PDF_Solutions Overview_PRINT_3.6.24.pdf" Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="PDF_Solutions Overview_PRINT_3.6.24.pdf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: <f_lwyp279k2> X-Attachment-Id: f_lwyp279k2
Any clues here?

Nothing obvious in the snippets posted to explain the duplication issue.
Are you using any form of malware scanning that might explain the duplication being seen sometimes on receipt / sending?
-
Not that I'm aware of.
The duplication of attachments is now spreading to other forwarded mails - mine too.
