Return new tab button to the old place.

I also find this change to be quite annoying. It seems to me that — by resolving an edge case — the vast majority have been negatively affected by this. Please revert this change.
-
@Jim2 I agree there's better way to solve this. But it's far from an edge case. Everyone who overflows vertical tabs had to go scrolling to find the new tab button. That's a majority of users. And no one liked that.
-
The going back and forth on this is just funny. How about we copy others' homework if we don't know how.
-
@Ayespy Fair point; it may not meet everyone's definition of an edge case, but I'd wager that in terms of number of users affected, the annoyance caused by this change far exceeds the annoyance caused by the bug that this change fixed.
-
Putting "+" button at the bottom was rushed and not thinked properly solution. Like it is in maybe 50% of features made.
Horizontal button doesn't have fixed position and when tab bar is filled with tab, "+" stays pinned and scrolling just tabs is enabled.
Same technique should have to be applied for vertical tabs. Instead, they rushed implementation, which was easier technically done, I believe.
-
As a compromice solution maybe it would be better to combine both cases:
- if opened tabs space is enough to place New tab button, then button shows after last opened tab
- if opened tabs space is not enough to place New tab button, then the button shows as it is right now, near Sync and Trash buttons.
-
Just out of curiosity:
In what situations do you need to use the "New tab" button?

I don't know how you can say "that's a majority of users" when the thread for that request has fewer posts and votes over years while this one has only been active for a little over a week. Personally I never have this issues and I use thumbs
This
fix
is now inconsistent with the placement for top and bottom tabs. Edge has vertical tabs as well and does not have the same scrolling problem.A bug would be that double clicking empty space on the tab container does not always open a new tab. Some times it seems locked and unresponsive which forces me to use the button
-
@barbudo2005 In cases when one is chillin and operating computer mostly with mouse only. Or when doing something on other monitor and want to open new tab - click on "+" and bam you are there. Yes somebody will say, use keyboard shortcut or whatever, but that makes need to focus browser window at first..
-
@enc0re Right-click on any tab, New Tab (at the very top of the menu).
Far quicker than pointing to the [+] New Tab button even if it is where you want it to be.

but this way has double clicks more
-
@gooddha The beauty about unwanted changes is that they force you to try other methods.
Never mind making a detailed analysis of how far you have to move the mouse cursor on average, or how many clicks you need to make. Just try new methods, and you may never go back to the old one even when it does become available again.
- Right-click on Tab, Open New Tab
- Double-click on empty part of tab bar
- Mouse gesture, e.g. GestureUp, GestureRight = New tab
People make a huge fuss about nothing very important, instead of looking for solutions that work now.
-
I use gestures from Opera old good times.
But all these methods are implicit. To use them you need to know about them and remember them. Create new tab button placed right after the tabs is the most explicit way to create new tab.
Explicit is always better than implicit.

I just dont understand why i need to change my habits to worse if i dont get any improvements in my browser usage expirience.

How do you know that the new habit will be worse if you have not even tried it for a few days?
All was explained multiple times before. A bug was fixed, although the solution could have been better. It sure beats me why, after waiting 6-7 years to fix the tab bar overflow bug, they came up with the current solution of moving the New Tab button to the synced tabs / trash can toolbar.

Sorry, I don't seem to have asked the right question.
The question should be :
Why is it necessary to open "before" doing something a new tab?
or in other words:
Is it possible that what I want to do brings included the opening of a new tab and therefore it is not necessary that I have to open a new tab "before" bringing to result what I want?
-
Opera was the company that invented browser tabs. And this mechanic used in most browsers for now.
Very sad, that UI-changes break this fundamental browser UI-pattern in browser from Opera creators.
I undersand, that bugfix won't be reverted. But what we can make in this situation? Create feature request? Or upvote this post?
-
@gooddha said in Return new tab button to the old place.:
Or upvote this post?
Yes, but I am sure that the developers got the message by now.
This feature request should be edited, just to make it clear that it is not asking for the bug fix to be reverted, but to position the New Tab Button after the last tab, but make the tabs scroll up when the Tab Bar is full.
-

@Hargrim Can you edit this feature request as described, please?
-
Can we get a confirmation of whether the developers are going to even entertain this? It's a high activity post on the forums, that should at least get their attention.
I really can't be bothered waiting around just to find they're not even going to look at it.
