Jump to Chromium 124 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3327.3
-
For whatever reason, Whatsapp Web isn't working for me with the latest beta/snapshot. It's working completely fine with the most recent stable version (which uses the same plugins/extensions) and other browsers, like FireFox. With the latest snapshot, the tab often crashes when I receive new messages (dead bird), or it is pretty slow and unresponsive, if it didn't crash yet.
-
@MrGroover I've noticed this more often on my Spotify web panel. On the WhatsApp web panel the notification icon (small one that displays the number of unread messages) appears very late or after clicking on the panel.

@MrGroover
Hi, every Chromium update can break extensions, this one jump from 122 to 124.
Maybe you share your extensions with @oudstand, it work at least on his/her system and does not crash.
Interesting for other WhatsApp user too.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Thanks for the feedback.
For some reason, the WA Web interface looked different on Vivaldi Snapshot than on the stable version. Stable had a vertical icon bar on the left hand side, which was not showing up on the Snapshot version. WA Web looked the same on Stable and Firefox.
Since connecting WA Web with the stable version, I had to re-connect it with the Snapshot. After the reconnection, the UI now looks the same and WA Web seems way more stable. At least from what I can tell after a few minutes of light usage. So it seems I was using an older version of WA Web, which was having issues with newer versions of Chrome. My lesson learnt: I will try re-connecting WA Web before reporting issues with it. -
@lfisk: i think this is very bad. Each row has three text thicknesses in height. in 4k the text is very small, but the entire menu takes up more than half the screen, and scrolling may still appear if the cursor is below the middle of the screen https://i.imgur.com/IZpBXel.jpeg

Hi, maybe you miss posts switch to the old menu with a flag:
chrome://flags/#customize-chrome-side-panel
Iirc you have to disable this until the Vivaldi team add a setting for it.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Thanks, yes I already change this, just curious why on desktop this should be turned on by default and needed everytime to search how to disable changes

@sprayer
Hi, I use the Chromium 124 build internally for some time, I noticed only nice, now I can read the menus much better.
If you publish such a change to a wider public you get more feedback, we have the snapshots for this.
We had the same as Vivaldi change the address bar position to center, boooh take it away.
We will get a setting for this, stay tuned.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin how can you better read this if they just add margin, and text have the same size. i prefer compact menu without scrollbar appearing, you can't read what you dont see
-
@sprayer
The font is bigger and bold now on my systems, some user mention they don't like this already.
At some point you have to scroll anyway but it doesn't matter, a user should choose what fits better.
Now you need a flag for this, I hope in the future not.Cheers, mib

It would be the best, if Vivaldi could offer two options to choose from and the possibility to style the menu by CSS.
-
But a setting for old menu views should never ever set to back bad (grayish, bad hinting) font rendering as it was in 6.6.

The font is bigger
Not for me (Win 10, 4K)

@sjudenim
Hi, I am on Linux, it seems in the file menu the font is not bigger only bold.
On the tab menu it is even smaller on Windows 10.
Anyway, thanks for the screen shots but I want spend more time on this.
Maybe after the next snapshot.Cheers, mib

I'm confused as I got a lot of crashes and not even a crashlog…
-
@Gif2D Seems some files on your side are missing, not all written there/dir read-only?!
You should try to delete complete folder Crashpad and restart Vivaldi.
-
It works, i have just learned how to install it to desktop and i import User Data folder from 6.6, no crashes so far, good job, what can i say. Main install of 6.6 is intact. I like to make it main browser to send http links from my own tool but, that's far i will go for now.

The new tab button descended to the bottom of the screen. previously was under the last tab which was far more ergonomic.
I hope it takes the elevator back up
-
I guess google is starting to win because the browser is letting more and more ads through, e.g. youtube.

@miguletz It is good that it is now grouped with the Trash Can and the Synced Tabs button, and always in a fixed position, but it should be at the very top.
