In today's stable version (6.6.3271.48) the problem still exists
-
I wish people would create a screen recording of this, I still struggle to understand the what the issue actually is.
Today's update should've at least fixed the Twitch videos starting up as Muted.
Here's a video I made:

@Pathduck hello, I install two vivaldi version, and so far I found that 6.6.3271.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit) is worked
Here is my screen recordingοΌ

@Pathduck this is my "default" browser in guest mode after update to latest stable version
I tried to use clean standalone version and there it works without this strange problem
-
@gefXJrAywO99tqZTzEIa The problem you are writing about is different than the one at the beginning of the thread and it was fixed in yesterday's update:
[Media] Autoplay broken (VB-104514)

I really struggled to follow that video, you move around way too fast for an old guy like me to follow along what you're doing...
I still can't reproduce any issue where either:
- Muting one tab mutes all tabs from the same domain
- Tabs are playing audio without the volume icon showing
I tried to use clean standalone version and there it works without this strange problem
This is probably a hint. People here often talk about "broken" profiles - I generally don't believe that, there's always a reason.
Have you set any experimetnal flags in your default profile for instance?
Flags are inherited by all profiles under the current install, even the Guest profile, making even testing in a new profile useless if you've messed with flags. In an earlier post your launch argument contain:
--no-startup-window /prefetch:5
These are not standard arguments. I can't even get the browser to launch using the--no-startup-window
argument. -

Old duck
And the broken profile thing can be argued. Over the years I estimate I stumbled upon over 2 dozen bugs I couldnβt replicate on a fresh profile. Some of them were possibly a matter of finding the right combination of settings, but Iβm pretty sure most of them stemmed from a profile issue, because they were gone after bringing a new one up to speed with the original setup.

I'm very sorry
In short, the point is that both of the points you described are present:
- Muting one tab mutes all tabs from the same domain
- Tabs are playing audio without the volume icon showing

No. I never consciously changed it

Interesting. I need to try to get rid of these custom flags

"C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --disable-smooth-scrolling --save-page-as-mhtml

It seems that something is actually wrong with this profile/installation. As I already mentioned: the clear standalone version does not have this problem

You should not override the command line unless you're sure the arguments cause no side effects. That looks like the standard command line, except the smooth scrolling argument. Try removing that one as well.
Where in the registry were those "strange flags"?
Make sure to check Help > About that the command line is correct and no special flags are set.
Have you checked
vivaldi://flags
as well to make sure?I found one report in the tracker that seems similar.
VB-104002 When using the startup parameter --process-per-site, tabs belonging to the same website can't be muted individually
This was closed as Invalid since setting such experimental command lines are user errors.

I have the same problem and can share some observations.
If I open twitch.tv in a tab it gets a speaker icon on the tab in the tab bar. Opening a second tab or more, either by open in new tab or opening a blank tab and navigating to twitch, does not get a speaker icon in the tab bar. Not even opening a new window and then navigating to twitch works, only the first tab opened in the first window gets a speaker icon. Two windows with different profiles both get one tab each of the same domain with the speaker icon, however.
The problem is not isolated to twitch, I tried the same with YouTube and had the same problem for YouTube. The first tab of YouTube got a speaker icon but any subsequent tabs did not. It is however isolated to the domain, with both twitch and YouTube opened the first tab of each domain get a speaker icon.
Muting the tab with the speaker icon by clicking the icon mutes all tabs with the same domain. Right click tab > mute tab exists on all tabs playing video but does nothing unless the tab also have the speaker icon, then it works the same way as clicking the icon.
The speaker icon stays on the first tab as long as any audio is playing in any tab with the same domain, even if video player is paused or muted in the tab with the speaker icon.
It does not seem to be a UI problem, but a problem with opening audio channels and routing the audio. I do not believe there is any audio playing in tabs without speaker icons, instead the browser seems to route the audio through the first tab opened. If the tab with the speaker icon is closed while other tabs are playing audio, all audio from other tabs without the speaker icon and with the same domain dies. Those tabs need to be reloaded to get audio playing again.
Yesterday I got 2 twitch tabs with the speaker icon for some reason, but I have not been able to reproduce this.
I tested this both in my normal profile and in the guest profile with the same results. I reset flags from vivaldi://flags before testing, just to be sure. Furthermore, I have never touched the command line.

It's not just similiar, but the exact issue described here. The mentioned flag was just the cause on my end and reliably reproducable over multiple systems.
As shown in this thread there might be a bigger underlying issue. And yeah ... "user errors"...

I do not remember now. It was some entry with a path to Vivaldi. After removing it, it works fine

Yes. I didn't change anything there, everything was "Default"

The problem started occurring for "random" users after upgrading from version 6.5 to 6.6 (stable), so there must be some dependency. The question is what and whether the team will be able to recreate it to be able to fix it
-
Maybe this is a Chromium problem?
I found similar problems in the following posts, all after recent updates:
https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/1ax78qw/per_site_audio_playing_from_one_tab/

I suspected as much, but didn't find any other reports at that time (snapshot since 6.6.3265.3, following 6.6.3268.3).

I think I have the same problem so I'll add on in the hopes that there will be a solution. I'm on 6.6.3271.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit) but it happened for a few updates already. Tested on new profile with no extensions. Have not changed any settings in any timeframe that can be reasonably attributed to the issue at hand. Have never changed any flags, command lines or registry.
Pre-issue:
Every tab has it's own mute button on the tab and each button mutes each tab individually no matter if it is the same site or different sites. All is well.
In this post assume that anything I say is "normal" refers to this state. Now:
On anything that isn't Youtube, using Twitch as an example:
Every opened tab with content from Twitch has it's audio played from the first tab.
You cannot mute individual tabs(there is no icon on the tab), and muting the first tab mutes all audio from any currently playing Twitch content.
All Twitch content are affected by this mute on the first tab, including embedded Twitch streams on a tab with a different domain.
If you close the first tab, any other tabs with the same domain loses all audio until re-opened.
Seperate sites do work individually, so tabs from site A and site B have individual mute buttons, but they still have the same issue so all tabs from site A has it's audio from one site A tab and all tabs from site B has it's audio from one site B tab.
It also does not matter if it is separate tabs or windows, but it works as normal if you open two Twitch windows with separate Vivaldi profiles. On Youtube things get weird.
Sometimes it works as normal with individual mute icons per tab, sometimes it doesn't and just work like my above example, sometimes it works but only if you mute the video(through Youtube player and not the tab icon) before opening another Youtube tab, sometimes it works if you manually open a new tab instead of middle click. However, even when Youtube decides to work normally, the other sites still have the same problem.I don't know what is going on with this issue or why Youtube sometimes works properly but everything other site stay broken.
But I'm posting this in hope that it being so weird and specific to Youtube only might provide a hint to a solution. -
The problem should be partially fixed in the last snapshot: https://www.reddit.com/r/vivaldibrowser/comments/1b96uyq/comment/kuir1ht/
But we will find out whether the problem has actually been resolved only after the release of the patch for the stable channel.
As I mentioned earlier, this problem does not occur on a "fresh" installation/profile

Just updated to 6.6.3271.50, seems to be fixed now.

ME TOO and it is!
Do you know how ancient Firefox looks? So many white screens; it's so painful. Weirdities and such. I'm happy to be able to use just Vivaldi again! Thanks for posting that @SpeedingTurtle
