How to disable the "What's New" tab?

@enompado said in How to disable the "What's New" tab?:
the @match needs to be modified depending on the language used in Vivaldi
Would this work?
https://vivaldi.com/*/new/
Being
https://vivaldi.com/es/new/
https://vivaldi.com/ru/new/
https://vivaldi.com/fr/new/

Yes, would work. I will update that.

Will test for V 6.8
Thx

@pafflick I agree with OP. I do read the updates so I don't mind it right after there is an update, but for me it opens the tab every single time i launch the browser. I can close the tab, browse a bit, close Vivaldi and open it 30 seconds, an hour, a day later and the tab reappears every single time I run the browser.

@JohnnyB82 This is not the correct behaviour, and it looks like you're the only one experiencing it. Please test this in a clean profile to see if it also occurs there. For more information, please refer to the Troubleshooting issues guide.

I have two installations of Vivaldi (Win10 and Fedora 41). Each installation has four profiles. Every time I open a profile, regardless of the operating system, this damn page loads. Over and over again. What an annoying disaster.
So, @pafflick, no he's not the only one.

Hi, I have several installs with profiles too but never see this page starting Vivaldi or a open a profile.
I bet an extension or maybe a cleaning software does this.
You can compare your extensions with @JohnnyB82, openchrome://system
, expand Extensions and copy/past them here.
Depends on your platform you can start Vivaldi with--disable-extensions
to keep them from loading to check this.
Start at least twice with this command switch. -
Thank you! Starting without extensions has removed this annoying page (even in the profiles that have no extensions at all). Even after restarting with extensions, the page does not reappear.

Strange but nice.
Sometimes disable/enable an extension fix issues and nobody knows why.Cheers, mib

Also for me: I have 25+ Profiles. After closing and opening one profile several times, and having to close the what's new tab every time, came here to see what's up.
I just closed all open profiles. Then opened about eight of them.
Of those, a few had not been opened since the recent update, those opened a prompt asking me to switch search engine. A few, frequently used, and so open since I rebooted earlier today, were opening a What's New tab, even if I had closed the tab before closing the profile. Working through it, so I could provide accurate data, it seems I've finally gotten it to stop. I closed all profile. At first I thought I still had the problem, but perhaps I just hadn't closed What's New the final time. After a couple more open/closes of individual profiles, I'm now able to close/open the suspect profiles and they now do NOT open What's New.
Still, it's annoying behavior. Especially that I will have to dismiss the 'try our new search engine' prompt about (30) more times: I have two computers, each with 25+ profiles, and no, I don't let the profiles sync.
AND, I ask with every post: There are so many not-default settings I use. Every new profile, I get to tweak it again.
PLEASE: we need a place to configure global settings that will prevail unless over-ridden by an individual profile settings. Not talking about sharing cache, history, form data. Just all the interface settings, like search engine choice, open and close tab behavior, tabs ordering and stacking, etc., etc., etc. -
@s0hughes
Hi, a user provide a Tampermonkey script to block this on the first page, maybe you check this.
By the way, no user created a feature request for this, this here is a normal forum post.Cheers, mib
