Youtube | Block Ads with Native Ad Blocker

@barbudo2005 text in that pic is too small and almost not readable, try to explain what you want to communicate here, thanks

@omxy You have a misconception about what an adblocker is and Vivaldi’s implementation of it. An adblocker is a program that loads third party block lists. The emphasis lies on third party—Vivaldi doesn’t compile block lists which do the actual ablocking. It’s the same with ublock origin. Although the ublock maintainers compile some block lists themselves, most of them are only cosmetic and the majority of the actual ablocking functionality is again third party. Video sites fight these adblocking lists trying to break them. The list maintainers try to find new ways to circumvent the ads. Rinse and repeat. Both ublock origin and Vivaldi provide a way to load additional lists and to write your own custom filters. If you have problems, try to load a list that works for your personal needs. Or file a request with the maintainers of a specific list outlining your problems with a webpage.

@omxy said in Vivaldi's adblocker is weaker and weaker! WHY THEN?:
Vivaldi's adblocker used to be strong. But nowadays you cannot view any video on Youtube and Dailymotion because both directly detect Vivaldi's adblocker! Same problem with UBlock Origin by the way... It is very frustrating to have to deactivate Vivaldi's adblocker to be able to watch a video. Can't it be improved?
Is the message displayed for any video on Youtube?
I don't view that many videos, but I never seen it.
Since I have the uBlock Origin extension, I disable the Vivaldi adblocker.
I delete all cookies when I exit Vivaldi. -

It's best to use uBlock Origin. I haven't had any problems with YouTube, of course you might have to use certain filters. Vivaldi's adblocker isn't advanced enough at the moment.

The only word that needed to be read was "Search".
Perhaps this image clarifies what I wanted to communicate, less subtly.
-
@omxy: so wait, you're having problems even with the use of uBlock? Please tell me more, did you also use Privacy Badger? And is it not working at all now, or just on and off?

@Hadden89 said in Youtube | Block Ads with Native Ad Blocker:
@CStallone In the chrome store there is a blue add button on top right. If you don't see it, please check this setting is enabled, restart vivaldi and retry:
Hadden, I went to the web store as you recommended and then to the Chrome link for uBlock. And the blue add button isn't there. So what should I do now?
-
@CStallone I just added the extension and then disabled Vivaldi’s Ad-blocker. Let’s hope this is more reliable.
What is your OS?

The idea of disabling the built-in ad blocker in a browser with a built-in ad blocker and adding another seemed to me to be hardly logical. But for my needs it turned out to be ideal to add "Disable Autoplay for..." https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/dinkeiniijmpjehejhedbciaedblhnnk - in the settings I chose the first three options - when the page loads I see a black rectangle instead of the video, when I click on the rectangle I see the video, not the ads.
-
@Ryszard, not all videos have ads, I simply watch the Videos with ads embedded, than there are no ads and above way smoother and better quality.
Video with ads
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxx
Edit to
https://www.youtube.com/embed/xxxxxxxx
No ads
Doing it automaticly with the embed redirect script (few line code) when clicking on a YT link.
Code
// ==UserScript== // @name Youtube Embed Redirect // @namespace https://www.youtube.com // @version 1.0 // @description Redirect Youtube Links to Embed Links // @license MIT // @copyright 2023, Kraust (https://openuserjs.org/users/Kraust) // @match https://www.youtube.com/watch?* // @match https://www.youtube.com/watch/* // @grant none // @updateURL https://openuserjs.org/meta/Kraust/Youtube_Embed_Redirect.meta.js // @downloadURL https://openuserjs.org/install/Kraust/Youtube_Embed_Redirect.user.js // ==/UserScript== function redirect() { var parms = new URLSearchParams(window.location.search); window.location = "/embed/" + parms.get("v"); } (function () { redirect(); })();
-
@Ryszard, I think in these privacy and blocking extensions there is no real future in the Chrome Store. The inbuild Blocker in Vivaldi is gold, but as extensions I bet more on Violentmonkey and userscripts, these are independent from Google.
-
@Catweazle You have already written about this script. I bookmarked it:
javascript:function redirect() {var parms = new URLSearchParams(window.location.search); window.location = "/embed/" + parms.get("v");}(function () {redirect();})();
If I find a movie I want to watch it works great. But more often than not, I'm interested in the address of the movie or the comments where I look for a link to the bandcamp -
@Ryszard, yes, there are problems when YT had desactivated the embed possibility, then you see an advice "Watch in YT".
In this case I search the Video in Andisearch, there you can watch it sandboxed in the search result or if not, clicking in the Video embedded , but with proxie in a new tab skipping the restriction. I love Andi.
For Movies I watch in the home pages from the Spanish public TV, or in those from the German one (over a German server as proxie because country restrictions). Movis on demand in Public TV are also without ads and free. -
@barbudo2005 : okay I haven't added it yet, and on the uBlock site, all I see is a link to add it to Chrome, and I don't even use Chrome. So will clicking there add it to Vivaldi?
-
@Pesala: I have Win10 and no Chrome.
-
Said:

It is the Chrome Store so they assume you are using Chrome, but Vivaldi is based on the same Chromium code as Chrome, so you click the button and it will install in Vivaldi.
-
@barbudo2005: ahh, thank you! That's what I've been wondering for days! So let me finally go do this now...
