Hi,
Read above. -
@tacorabane Welcome to the Vivaldi Community.
Your reputation level is not high enough to be granted access to webmail.
Actively participate in the Community: post on the Forum, post a blog, submit a Theme, use Sync, post on Vivaldi Social, have your own Forum posts upvoted.
Eventually, your reputation level will be high enough to unlock access. Your account recovery e-mail address will be sent an e-mail when you have webmail access.

I understand the why it is the way it is. Doesn't mean I like it how... esoteric and vague it feels.
-
@LunaSterling exactly! Probably it was the correct and a temporary solution at the time to combat spammers but today it is obsolete however community veterans to my surprise still support this mechanic.
-
The current policy has been in place for less than two years and I must respectfully disagree with @iqaluit that it's obsolete. Vivaldi had to do something and the current policy is the result.
@LunaSterling I am glad you understand why the policy is in place.

I just registered on vivaldi.net with a new user, I have registered, activated the second factor, installed vivaldi, logged in to the profile, but I cannot access the email via web, it gives me an access denied error, I have not I don't receive the activation email or anything, does anyone know what the problem is?
-
@joaquinbarriobenito You have to use Vivaldi services, such as this forum, Vivaldi Social and Vivaldi blogs to build your reputation up.
This is a feature to combat spam/bot account creation.
-
thank you very much for the response.
-
Same here. Would like to know when I can access the webmail. As a fan of classical music, having an email address with vivaldi.net means a lot to me. I guess I can post/reply more on the blog and forum?
-
@adagioni No-one can tell you when. Just prove you are human and not interested in sending spam from your Vivaldi mail account.
It's not about forum reputation.
It's about showing you have an actual interest in using Vivaldi's services. Please read:

(This one apparently can't be posted enough...)Note: I don't work for Vivaldi and do not know all the details of how it works nor do I have any say in the matter.
-
@Pathduck Thank you for the response. I understand Vivaldi wants to keep it secret to avoid being hacked by spammers.
-
I know this discussion has been ongoing for a while but in my opinion, this is one of the best systems to combat abuse that I have seen.
Spammers can easily buy dozens of SIM cards and set up fake email accounts with other services. However, very few criminals will go through the effort of getting a Vivaldi address for malicious purposes. It's just not worth the effort.
This way, Vivaldi has developed a great way to (a) keep their community safe, (b) get people engaged in their community, and (c) make your Vivaldi email address feel like a privilege rather than a right -
The thing is that Vivaldi want users to use other Vivaldi services.
Sadly there are users that don't want or don't feel the need to use those other services for whatever reason. They have no hope of ever getting access to mail.
Maybe I should just spam the release threads with "thank you for the release" and issue threads with "Me too, I have this issue" even if not true, and every suggestion thread with "yes, I want this".
Is that useful? I'm engaging.

If users read the blog post (link above), they would understand Vivaldi's reasoning.

Spamming the threads violates Vivaldi's policies, which may result in the user being banned.
In addition, please see Vivaldi's Community Code of Conduct, under Don'ts.
Once a user has been granted Webmail access, they will receive an e-mail at the account/password recovery address in their account profile.
Vivaldi Webmail access is a privilege, not a right.

@Pathduck Thanks for the tip, I'm also new to Vivaldi email and trying to learn how the reputation thing works.
-
@tacorabane I get it. Just shows that AI and machine learning cannot solve every problem.

I just joined but I can say I like the system. As it was said above, it is very unlikely people with foul intentions would spend the time and effort to get registered here if they can just do it elsewhere with a very low effort. I do think this could still be tweaked a bit, for example having the ability to test the mailbox for only incoming email. It would be then good to see also for well-intentioned users to see if they like it.
This all being said, the thing I do not like it how ominous all it seems. Is spending time on the forum enough? If not, would upvoting bring bonus points? What if users lack language skills and do not have a dedicated language forum - would the only way be the Sync function? Would usage on the phone work too? Would it be better if I split this post into three shorter ones?
Also going through this old post, I did not actually see anyone saying "it is all good, I got it". That might shatter the hope it comes sooner or later. For all I know, maybe all the webmail users are all around from the time this was introduced
