Browser navigates to a different URL than the one typed on pressing Enter: bug caused by delayed auto suggestions
-
The browser has a very annoying bug: you manually type a URL in the address bar and press Enter -> and instead of navigating to the address you typed, Vivaldi goes to a different address or performs a search using your default search engine.
This seems to be due to the fact that Vivaldi keeps searching for address suggestions in the background, and automatically picks some item from there, replacing what you typed in the address bar, in between the moment you finished typing and you press Enter.
I have the browser to never delete the history of visited addresses, so I believe this makes the issue happen more frequently than for people which don't do this.
I have Vivaldi installed on three PCs, it does the same on all of them.
These are the configuration options, btw:
-
This issue continues to be present and makes Vivaldi almost impossible to use.
I can't just type something in the address bar and press Enter, as most of the time the browser will navigate to some other URL. I have to wait for at least 5 seconds to increase the chance the browser will go to the address I typed and not somewhere else.
-
@bogdanbozi I've very similar settings and didn't experience this. One thing you can try is to lower history/
typedpriority and increase typed one to see if it helps: -
Than you, but I have it on three Vivaldi instances on three different computers (from an old mobile i5 in a Surface Pro to a 5900X on a desktop PC) and they all experience this. I did a reset of the settings on that page, and used the Vivaldi default ones for that menu, with no change in the end result.
I see you don't have Browser History enabled, which is what I think makes a difference. I have browser history set to "keep forever" and has accumulated several years of visited URLs. This will make the background process which keeps changing the current address in the address bar complete after 5 or more seconds, not immediately.
-
@bogdanbozi with big history, the urlbar will struggle a bit, reason I keep the specific setting disabled (but I use one year). Tweaking priorities should help you a bit with the delay. Typed setting only should be faster.
-
I tweaked the priorities several times, nothing helped. As I said, I did this on three different computers even.
To put it simply: the browser should not change what is in the address bar, it should only change the listing in the address bar drop down. It already has the "best match" entry, it should change that one with a picked item, and not the content of the address bar itself.
