How do you save and get your settings back after a reinstall and login?
-
I have multilple installations of vivaldi across devices, and need to install them frequently.
My method is a combination of sync, notes, and keepassdx.
I haven't had luck importing a profile... messes up mail, and some other thinigs, so stopped trying.
So...
*I use KeepassDX to store all my passwords, and store the master database on a NAS. This ensures my passwords are never lost, as there are now hundreds. I only need to remember one.
*Install Vivaldi, go through the setup, and sign into sync using KeepassXC. Sync brings in notes and everything else, and I made a note with mail addresses, calendars, rss, feeds, theme editor values, etc... anything that is tedious to gather from multiple locations, so it is mostly a c/p operation. Passwords stay in Keepass of course. ( I could also create an entry for this in Keepass.... but notes are encrypted so meh...).That's pretty much it. Takes a few minutes on a pc to set up three mail acc'ts, two calendars, theme settings, layout, bookmarks, form fill, etc... and everythign else that sync's.
Use a password safe.. -
@neklis There is a prompt that says the password will never be sent to us. It is used only locally on your device. That's how end-to-end encryption works. In general, you should always use passwords you will remember or save them in a secure location.
That said, if you have the data stored locally on at least one Vivaldi instance, you can safely reset the encryption password by clearing the data from servers. After setting a new encryption password, you'll have to upload everything again from the device that has the data.
Sometimes, people use the login password as the encryption password. However, changing the login password doesn't update the encryption password (remember - it's never sent to us). If you also might have used the login password for encryption and changed the login password since Sync's setup, you could try using your old passwords.
If the data is currently not accessible on any devices, you didn't download the backup encryption key, and you've forgotten the encryption password, it's unfortunately not possible to restore the data.
