i shouldn't imagine that a post like this would trigger any ugly flamewars or anything...

The workspace is unstable and will soon have a new tab group feature that I am developing; starting with Floorp 11.7.0 we will have the ability to migrate to STG.
-
@ybjrepnfr said in Arching Floorpians:
will soon have a new tab group - migrate to STG.
-
@npro fwiw, i also do not understand what the dev means here; what is STG?
however, them saying tab group might be interesting.
-
@ybjrepnfr he/she is talking about migrating, it could be the Simple Tab Groups add-on
-
@npro oh right, yes, i believe you're prolly correct. in various reddit places etc i see lots of peeps bigging up that addon, as if that's actually the ants pants & the bees knees, in apparent ignorance of the existence of
tst
&sidebery
. imo, if the dev merely makesfloorp
compatible with stg, it's prolly not gonna be of much interest to us. personally, if indeed that's all they do, i shall be disappointed.ps: i should emphasise that i am not criticising/mocking stg itself, which afaict looks like some fine work that definitely will help many peeps. tis just that i suspect i might have been spoiled by tst & sidebery.

@npro yep. i just saw it.

Floorp Browser | About migrate to STG from Workspaces
We plan to remove the workspace feature in the next version of Floorp, Floorp 12. Since this feature was a maker of problems that impacted users, we will make the grouping feature again with the experience we gained during the implementation of the PWA feature.
The migration period will be 6 months (until the release of Floorp 12)
This article explains migrating Workspaces to the โsimple Tab Groupsโ add-on.
No need to migrate now! You can continue to use workspaces for 6 months!

@ybjrepnfr So this is going to be the new reality... I installed
stg
to get a taste of it, unfortunately its numerous addons that look promising don't show up in the bar (and it isn't compatible withsidebery
either)Some confilcts with other extensions as well
This extension may conflict with other programs similar in functionality. Conflicted addons: Tab Open/Close Control OneTab Tiled Tab Groups Totally not Panorama (Tab Groups with tab hiding) Panorama Tab Groups Panorama View (etc.)
I'm also curious about what midori will do now.
-
@npro aha, logical coincidence... i've also been testing
stg
, & whilst i'm still gonna try to be noble & not mock it, for my sensibility & use-case it's just not suitable. additional to what you said:- it cannot handle pinned tabs at all
- it seems unable to support mouse-wheel tab-scrolling
however, all my initial experiments were predicated on an assumed paradigm of using stg instead of tst or sidebery, or even floorp's own native tabs [& this is what really underwhelmed me]. later, i tried a new idea... using stg with floorp's own native tabs. tbh, this seems to be more promising! stg gives the grouping, floorp's v/t gives the pinned tabs [albeit primitive] & wheel-scrolling. if/when the next floorp version arrives, i'll be interested to retest.
all that said, i was trying to be kind, but here's the brutal truth afaict atm:
- my profile using tst & floorp's native workgroups obviously now only has <6 months left to live before i'll need to nuke it
- my [default] profile using sidebery for tabs AND groups [via its multiple tab-panels ofc] seems like it will need to be my permanent paradigm. if so, that's ok with me, given it's still working really well ... i'm still loving using this browser, with the way i have set it up... yay!

vivaldi
&sidebery
have the same bug wrt opening links from pinned tabs, into new tabs. all the subsequent child-tabs are in reverse sequence.tst
is the only one that does it correctly. all the subsequent child-tabs are in correct sequence, with first at top & last at bottom
edited:
aha, fixed it; there was an old
sidebery
setting i'd deliberately chosen ages ago, but based on a misunderstanding by me of its purpose, & which setting i'd subsequently forgotten all about. i've now toggled it. problem solved.thus, it's only vivaldi with the bug.

@ybjrepnfr yesterday & today i was confused / annoyed to discover in settings that all the languages i thought i had enabled for translations, in my floorp default profile, had buggered off again. it's possible though that i confused myself, ie, maybe the pic i pasted in my 22November post above, which shows all available languages already downloaded, was done when my "native" profile was my default, rather than my original "daily" profile which i reverted to some weeks ago. anyway, in said daily profile i have now [re?]downloaded all languages, & have pasted the pic here, as a graphical reference in case over coming days i find they've [again?] buggered off.

This is what happens when you don't have at least 20 people to work on development, 40 hrs per person, per week. Vivaldi is tough enough. Smaller browser projects have got to be tougher.
