Issue when pressing enter on address bar
-
Yep, unfortunatelly I'm on the same boat.
After the last update, the address bar is really slow. I'll try to create a new test profile but I don't think I should be facing these issues if this wasn't a problem before this update.
-
The issue has been driving me crazy ever since the latest update. Sometimes the search is instant just like the way it was before and sometimes it takes 5-8 seconds.
-
By far the most annoying issue I have ever faced with Vivaldi!
-
This is a known issue - It is being tracked as VB-99872.
Disabling "browsing history" from Settings > Address Bar > Drop Down Menu will fix work around the issue until a fix is published.
-
@LonM do you a have a public bug tracker now?
-
Curious that domains from Direct Match doesn't have the delay issue even with Browser History enabled.
-
Confirmed that delay only happens with
Enable Direct Match
unchecked once you re-enable it, delay goes away. -
@BrikoX No, but I have access to the one the developers use, so I can see the issue has been reported.
-
@BrikoX Not too much. Direct matches are just a list of keyword+urls and doesn't rely on history file at all

Linux 6.4.3160.34 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit) here, same issue. The workaround provided by @Hadden89 and @LonM does fix the issue, but I think I can provide a bit more info.
Hitting enter takes a few seconds to process. Clicking the search option below the address bar is instant.
same with URLs, clicking on it in suggestions is instant load, pressing Enter isn't.
But there is also similar problem with just putting any url there and pressing enter
This is how I noticed it first, I thought my Enter key stopped working for a while.
Which search engine is this you use as default?
Yandex, but it doesn't seem to matter considering the bug also affecting URLs.
If I switch to another tab, it loads the page there, not where I entered it
Also happened to me, I opened up Discord to ask if anyone else had this issue, then the tab got overridden by the URL I entered a few seconds before in another tab.
Confirmed that delay only happens with Enable Direct Match unchecked once you re-enable it, delay goes away.
no, I still had the issue despite direct match being enabled, it's just in the middle of the list (still above browser history).

@mentroxea Might be the same which happened to me. Uncheck every entry here:
Test if the delay happens and then enable the entries you need.
And herein lies the problem. I've disabled Browser History - works like a charm. Why did 6.4 break this one option?
This resolved my issue too. I have been getting it since the latest update. Was driving me crazy!
-
Yeah this is egregious. The workaround breaks basic browser functionality entirely (autocompleting history). Sad to say I'll probably leave Vivaldi for good if this isn't fixed quickly.
-
There's been a strangely large number of issues with the address bar since October 2022. It feels like one thing is fixed and then some other issue is introduced. I would love to go back to pre October 2022 address bar... now I've got constant problems with the auto complete.
-
I am, too, suffering from this issue. To me it feels like Vivaldi's search bar functionality has been generally much slower than it used to be (change happened maybe after this summer?) and this issue is just the newest instance of the trouble. I really hope this issue and the sluggishness of the autocomplete can be fixed asap, it's basic browser functionality.
I am really disheartened with the situation as I have come to depend on Vivaldi for its usually rock solid foundation and features.
-
This is happening to me too and it is a minor but annoying enough that I am going to swtich back to firefox until it is fixed.
-
@BrikoX This, unfortunately, did not fix the issue for me
OS: macOS Sonoma 14.1
Vivaldi: 6.4.3160.41 (Stable channel) (arm64) -
Unchecking browser history fixed it for me too.
-
Vivaldi browser on Windows 10: Until the last month or so, clicking on the 'V' in the upper left corner produced a multi-level menu of valuable options. For example, you could check whether you had the latest version of Vivaldi,
you could get to browser extensions, you could restore your tabs (which Vivaldi manages to lose all too often).
And many other options. Where can I find that menu now that clicking the 'V' does nothing? -
Unchecking history fixes it for me as well. I'm really getting sick of Vivaldi introducing so many bugs on basic functionality. I get a new feature, but something that exists across every browser? Come on. And now it'll be months before they decide to fix it.
-
Another Vivaldi update came through, and still no fix for this deal-breaking bug. Unchecking history IS NOT A FIX. It is a bypass hack that disables a key functionality. It is depressing to see that Vivaldi went from by far the best web browser available, to more of the same - with bugs introduced all the time, no response from the devs, and weeks and months before any fix is in the horizon. Time to abandon ship. I don't need yet another browser that doesn't give a damn.
