Unsolved Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders

@saudiqbal said in Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders:
For me I enabled animation in settings and no more blank speed dial icons.
It does not work. For me, it was always enabled, and the bug appeared.
@ilprof said in Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders:
the only solution that works for me is downgrading to 6.3.3134.3-1.
One month of blank tiles is enough, better a corrupted profile.I agree. I could not suffer more. I downgraded today. I however, cannot see your version (6.3.3134.3-1) in downgrade list.
I have choosen the 6.2.3105.58-1 (the bug is not there). The 6.4.3160.34-1 does have the bug. -

So wrong... but yet so beautiful

he's using Snapshot.
@Ashark said in Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders:
You can hit F5 when in broken state. Then, when you return to the folder, there will be spinning arrow (indicating that it updates the icon of the bookmark) for each bookmark. And while they are updating, the bookmarks are clickable.
I don't think that's a good advice, this way one could lose his/her custom thumbnails (and start over again).

Blank speed dial thumbnails with last update of Vivaldi on my Zorin 15 sometimes it comes in OK, other time the thumbnails flash and go blank and do nothing when picked.
-
I don't know if this fixed it, But I reset my trackers and blockers and the problem seems to have gone away. I have Zorin15.3
-
@mrdovie How did you reset your trackers and blockers?
-
@bogdanjelescu Enable "Privacy Statistics" in the Speed Dial settings. Then click to the statistics label. Then press red button "Reset Statistics".
But this does not work. I had a new profile (logged in to vivaldi account, but not browsed anything yet) in vivaldi snapshot, and the bug is presented.
-
Thank you @Ashark! : )
edit: And yes, I can confirm that this does not work.

I have been playing around with Sparky Linux on an old HP Netbook that I was considering tossing.
SparkyLinux 7.1 Orion-Belt (XFce/Debian)
Kernerl 6.1.0-13HP Netbook 110
CPU Intel Atom N450
Intel Video Chipset/Atom ProcVivaldi 6.4.3160.41 Stable
Clean new profile. And interestingly, I have not yet been able to make the problem happen. So far everything is alarmingly well behaved.

@mrdovie The problem still comes and goes after resetting ad blocker count. But went away for quite a while.

I ported my Vivaldi profile from my desktop machine to the Netbook, which is actually a 210 model, not a 110 as I stated above, and everything still works.
I am wondering if there is some sort of timing issue internally in the current build of Vivaldi in which some things get ahead of others and then Speed Dial doesn't work.
On my desktop machine with its Core i7 3770K proc the problem happens most of the time, not all of the time. The 3770K, while older, was a BEAST of a proc in its day and still holds it own reasonably well with anything I throw at it. Vivaldi is quite fast on it in Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop.
On the HP Netbook 210 with its 2 Gb of RAM and its little Atom proc, all modern OSes, except things like Puppy Linux, and all modern software is marginal at best. In Sparky XFce, the Netbook struggles sloooowly with the current build of Vivaldi. It works, but patience is required. And the problem with Speed Dial never happens. I have tried and tried. It never happens, or, if it does happen, it happens so infrequently as to be functionally indistinguishable from never.

I agree.
$ strace vivaldi works better than $ vivaldi and if I run it in vm even better.
It seems that SD has more problems with high-performance situations.
And a timing problem could lead to the fact that, releasing the mouse button not immediately, works better -

Your suggested workaround--left clicking on a folder tile but holding the mouse button down for a short length of time rather than releasing it immediately--seems to work.
But it does not work all the time for me.
It works best with folders that have only a few tiles.
It has never yet worked for me with a folder that contains a lot of tiles.

I just noticed an improvement.
I confirm that in my folders there are a maximum of 5/6 tiles -
Another workaround that is successful most, but not all, of the time is to click on the Show Parent Folder button in a folder with non-functional tiles.
For example:
This will take you back out of the folder. Then click on the folder again. Most of the time (for me at least) the tiles in the folder will then be functional.
-
1ΒΊ Open a new tab
2ΒΊ Go to the folder, the shortcuts disappear (ok) dont close.
3ΒΊ Open a new second tab
4ΒΊ Come back to the firs tab and is all ok.
Interesting.... -
OK Speed Dail in the current build of Vivaldi works flawlessly in this configuration
SparkyLinux 7.1 Orion-Belt (XFce/Debian)
Kernerl 6.1.0-13HP Netbook 110
CPU Intel Atom N450
Intel Video Chipset/Atom Proc
2 Gb of RAMVivaldi 6.4.3160.41 Stable
Clean new profile. Now I have made a bootable USB key with Sparky and am running it on my Core i-7 37370K machine (16 Gb RAM, AMD video card). I have installed Vivaldi, and it is all very fast. But Speed Dail doesn't work, that is without resorting to the workarounds.
Does system speed (as in faster/higher performance) bring this bug to the fore?
-
Problem still there for Vivaldi 6.4.3160.41 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
Kernel: Linux 6.6.0-1-MANJAROInstalled plugins (disabling doesn't help):
AutoScroll 4.10
Checker Plus for Gmail24.3.4
Grammar Checker & Paraphraser β LanguageTool 8.1.2 -
@josefley Sometimes, when I go back out of a failed display of a speed dial folder, the speed dials on the home screen are blank. Click on another new tab and it has thumbnails. Click back and the blank one now does too.
