Unsolved Speed-Dial - blank thumbnails and not working bookmarks and folders
-
Just an FYI.
The problem persists with yesterday's Mint update to kernel 5.4.0-166-generic.

@d_canard This solution works but i'm wondering if this provides a clue for the issue since tab expansion seems to be uncontrolled of late. What I mean by this is sometimes when I look up at the tabs there are about 3 times more than there should be, and i'm wondering what is generating these extra tabs????
I do not know. I am not a developer. I am just an end user, albeit one with some now distant techie background --Novell Netware, MS stuff (DOS through Win 7/Server 2011, CentOS in network appliances, enterprise security systems (Trend Micro in particular), wiring plants and hardware infrastructure, etc.
Few us here seem to experience exactly the same symptoms. What we have in common is the blank, nonfunctional tiles. I do not get extra tabs. And for me, the problem is not consistent. Sometimes things work, everything. Sometimes one folder will work but others won't. Sometimes nothing works.
The workarounds listed here which I will repeat--tile wiggling, a good one when there are only few tiles in a folder--and opening a new tab and then going back to the tab for the open folder--these are not reported as working for everyone--some here report that they do not work for them.
The other obvious workaround, something far less sexy than a functioning Speed Dial, is to use the bookmarks list in the conventional menu system.

same as this on iPad

The workarounds listed here ....
In my case it improves by pressing the left mouse button on the tile and releasing it not immediately......(try after two seconds)

Same problem here on Zorin Linux. Completely random issue. I noticed that switching to another tab, then returning brings back the missing thumbnails.

I happens to me too. Debian 12 and Void-Linux. Bith running XFCE4.

Have it regularly since 6.4. Ubuntu 22.04.3, different computers.
Also: Vivaldi keeps crashing when of two open windows (not just tabs) one is closed by clicking the close button.

Woaaah this happens all the time! It's so bloody annoying! : )
edit: and working with a Bookmarks bar is a pain in the ass. So so slow! Productivity went down the drain. : )

Got this across MX-21,MX23 and Mint cinnamon. 18 days from first report guys......

Hey Folks,
I've been noticing something strange over the past week or so.
I'm running the latest stable release of Vivaldi for Linux on Ubuntu LTS 22.04. When I go to my bookmarks on the Speed Dial, as I move the mouse toward a bookmark or bookmark folder, the bookmarks will all disappear and I have to refresh multiple times or go back and forth multiple times before they show again. Has anyone else been experiencing this?
Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm having a hard time explaining what is actually happening.
Thanks!

Whoever merged my post with this one...Thanks! I searched while creating my post but didn't find this one.

@npro Ryzen 7 + Nvidia GTX 1060 + Fedora 38 KDE, randomly happens also.

I just updated Vivaldi, and, unfortunately, the problem persists.
Vivaldi 6.4.3160.41 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
Revision 5f5f4f3f77914abe3f457c711cf1ebf00d5681ff -
Vivaldi 6.4.3160.41 stable, nothing changed in the new release

@kzsfluxus Which GPU and Linux distribution do you have? Just curious.
-
@DoctorG VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
DeviceName: Onboard IGD
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company HD Graphics 530 -
@kzsfluxus Which Linux?
-
Really strange, i could not get Vivaldis speed dial in such state with NVidia GT 710 or Intel HD 630 on Ubuntu 22/23 or Debian 12 KDE.
Could it be, that it depends on driver?

no, it's obviously (by the amount of so many reports with different (old & new) hardware, distro and DE configurations) strictly a VIvaldi issue. I think you just don't work with Speed Dial folders long enough to experience it
