WebGL error when logging into DeviantArt
-
Hey folks! I'm at a standstill with being able to access my DeviantArt account and since I've already spent days speaking with their support team with no solution found, I think it may be time to hit the forums and do this the old fashioned way.
Issue:
Using Vivaldi as my default browser, when logging in to DeviantArt, Dev tools console log returns a client side error stating that WebGL is not supported on my device. Not only is it doing this on Vivaldi, but it's doing it on every single browser.
I can manage a successful load up using my mobile phone but that's it. everything else is wonky.What I've done to troubleshoot issue:
-Ensured browsers of all types are up to date and running properly.
-Ensured all browsers had extensions turned off
-All Firewall, security protocols, and VPN's have simultaneously been off when trying to figure out this problem. (of course I turned them back on after troubleshooting)- wiped every cache possible that pertained to any sort of internet configuration file, or the browsers themselves.
- I have completed a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro with a brand new SSD and completely wiped my original HDD.
Below is the console code I pulled with the error:
Could not get context for WebGL version 2 content.js:1 Could not get context for WebGL version 1 content.js:1 Initialization of backend webgl failed kr @ content.js:1 content.js:1 Error: WebGL is not supported on this device at new zF (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:667392) at Object.factory (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:684128) at ys.initializeBackend (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:40785) at ys.initializeBackendsAndReturnBest (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:42144) at get backend [as backend] (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:39258) at ys.makeTensor (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:46467) at Fd (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:145495) at wy.apply (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:271813) at AT.addWeight (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:288633) at AT.build (chrome-extension://fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb/content.js:1:418281) kr @ content.js:1
If there's anyone out there who has experienced a similar issue, please feel free to PM me or just reply on this thread i guess lol.
Thanks for you time and hopefully we can get this resolved!Also, if any more information is required or a different process should be ran, let me know and ill try to get it taken care of and post back the result.

What I've done to troubleshoot issue:
What you missed out was
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/Note: I don't have an DA account to verify working but anyway -
the error console is all about "extension:fooolghllnmhmmndgjiamiiodkpenpbb" !!??That is the "NordPass Password manager extension".
Why that extension would be affecting WebGL
Can you remove it and restart Vivaldi to check again.Another "issue" may be GPU so start Vivaldi in Guest Profile (see troubleshooting above) and then check the url Vivaldi:gpu
The WebGL support is listed near the beginning of the output.

@TbGbe
Well, it surely couldn't be the password manager because I just installed it two days ago and this deviant issue has persisted for the better part of a month, maybe even longer. I'll triple check everything as well as the link provided. Thank you for that btw.
Deviant support stopped replying to me so I'm not sure whats going on on their side.
I even attempted to create a new account yesterday and the same errors occurred for me. As soon as I hit login, I receive the console errors, and then it just reloads the same screen to login with lol. It's such an odd scenario. -
@Shiftfire
Hi, I have an account on Devian and can login without issues.
Did you check vivaldi://gpu from the trouble shoot page?
Did you test a guest or a new profile?WebGL should be enabled at least software emulation:
This is on my Linux laptop:
This is on my Windows 11 desktop:
Vivaldi 6.1.3035.204 and 6.2 snapshot.
Cheers, mib

Initialization of backend webgl
The WebGL error is not related to a failing login. I get the same error in console when I disable HW acceleration, but can still sign in. I don't know why the extension would check if your browser supports WebGL, but it does.
Looking at the devtools console is not necessarily a good place to start troubleshooting, it too many many confusing error messages that might not even be related.
I guess one question to ask, even if it's probably not related - is why you've disabled your hardware acceleration?
Still, try the troubleshooting steps as linked earlier.

Issue has been resolved!
So this issue was resolved by watching my background processes list and catching the culprit causing my issues.
I'll do my best to explain in as much detail as I can, however, I'm not going to attempt to explain something to far into details that I myself do not understand and then someone turns around and breaks their computer because of my post. So FAIR WARNING: I'm NOT and expert in the IT Support Field, so do NOT take any of this information as some sort of end-all-be-all to your problem, even if they happen to be explicitly similar.
The issue that created this post ultimately was my VPN service. I was unaware of a bugged out background process that somehow managed to float from suspended to running in a quick 5 or so seconds as if it hit a loop error or something. Then it would disappear. I never received any notifications, there are no logs to be found of the error occurring. Very extremely odd case. The file itself was not malicious, it was directly from my VPN provider. My thoughts are that it was just a bugged out older version of a process that has since been fixed and I happened to be unlucky enough to have it latch on to my web browsing enjoyment.
The process was kicking on and off my VPN service without any notification, but only when I went to access a webpage. any other task wouldn't budge it.
Again, there was no log files hidden somewhere in deep space, This wasn't the treasure trove of bug finds, nothing special to define the file as a huge threat of malicious intent behind it. Thankfully, might I add.Essentially everytime I went to connect to DeviantArt or any other webpage, my vpn would be toggled on and begin whatever fancy IP shtuff that it does and that happened to take place in the same time frame as me getting booted from DeviantArts login authentication everytime. I found this out by pulling my processes and services windows up side by side on one of my screens and then a webpage on my secondary. I studied every process and service all the way down the list a few times over and noticed the pattern that this specific file would do the following.
- be in suspended status
- Click to open my web browser
#. Suspended status shoots to running status and then back to suspended( almost in the blink of an eye.)
2a. Once I would submit a search or move to load a new page. The same events would occur except this time there was like a 5 second delay between appearance and disappearance. - I just watched that process occurrence for a couple of hours to notate (visually, I didnt write anything down like a goob) any changes and once I couldnt see anything different, A quick deletion of the file and a check for any updates quickly solved my issue on logging in to Deviant Art.
The best part is, all I can do is explain these scenario in the way I just did because I got so involved in watching the file appear and disappear, I forgot to log basically anything important before I got rid of it. And to be fair, I don't feel like restore anything broken currently, my brains had enough.

@Shiftfire
Hi, thank you for reporting back, this is a rare issue may even experienced user cant find.Independent of your issue, the forum moderators and long term user pray since years issues in Vivaldi are 90% caused by extensions and security/cleaning software.
Many user don´t believe this but it is so.I'm sorry not to ask you about security software, it would have saved you hours of troubleshooting.
Thanks again, mib

Unfortunately it wouldn't!
OP already statedAll Firewall, security protocols, and VPN's have simultaneously been off when trying to figure out this problem.
A VPN file/process activating when VPN is off?
We know about the need to remove extensions and antivirus/adblockers for troubleshooting but removing a VPN is new to me!? -
@TbGbe
Hi, some user report issues with VPN extensions and/or VPN system software.
This was a really strange problem, a not running VPN service cause this issue.
I am to lazy to search for but maybe other user know a thread about.
To remove all security software and restart the system is sometimes the only solution but to much for the most user.
Understandable.Cheers, mib

A very odd case indeed. I'm gonna do some digging today and see what results I find.Thanks for following with me through this issue!
That goes for everybody! I appreciate it!
