Should I use Google's Enhanced Safe Browsing mode if I use Vivaldi?
-
My Gmail is popping a notification about using Enhanced Safe Browsing on my Google Account. I use Vivaldi for all personal web browsing, including accessing Gmail, so do I need this? Do you recommend it?

@gregcomfort Enhanced Safe Browsing, per se, can only be used in Chrome. However Google anti-phishing and malware protection services (parts of enhanced safe browsing) are built into Chromium, so you can turn them on in Vivaldi (in Settings under the heading of Google Services) and I, personally have them turned on. They probably offer some benefit which Vivaldi cannot offer on its own without these services.

I have it disabled, the same filters of the ad- and trackerblocker block sites that are not safe. In any case, I usually check links that I don't know and that I find suspicious. The Site Bleacher extension anyway delete all data from the page if it not whitelisted.
I don't trust Google with regard to correctly identifying Malware or Scam, it doesn't do it on Android with its Play Protect, as it has already been shown on several occasions that it's just little more than a placebo, removing apps only after user reports, so I don't think it's more efficient on desktop either, where I prefer to use my own means. -
The "Enhanced" mode would not work in Vivaldi, because it requires 1) the browser being logged into a Google Account, a system that is completely disabled in Vivaldi, and 2) would (probably) require additional safe browsing APIs being enabled.
For that reason the enhanced mode choice radio button in the chrome settings has been removed/hidden.

Anyway it's somewhat ironic to use Google Search in Vivaldi, which kills all privacy settings in the Browser. I use a lot of search engines, but no Google, nor Bing, as much privacy front-ends like Startpage and others.
