No sound on any video in Vivaldi
-
I tried to play a video on a Home Depot page and got no sound. I tried the video in Firefox and Chrome, and it played with sound in both. I tried some other videos in Vivaldi. None of them had sound.
I tried playing a Youtube video. It worked in Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer but not in Vivaldi.
Local video files play fine.
The test in the Windows Sound dialog box, right click speaker in system tray, playback devices, works fine.
To my knowledge, I havn't changed anything in Vivaldi lately.
Vivaldi plays sound fine on other machines in the household, which are clones of my machine.
I got the same result in guest profile.
I got no sound on the media test file at https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/media/html5-proprietary-media-on-linux/
What to do?

@northmadison In Windows Mixer you have checked if sound is muted for Vivaldi?
Could be some user-installed or system audio codec not working.
Please check Troubleshooting issues.
Do all the tests at http://hpr.dogphilosophy.net/test/ play?

@northmadison Is maybe the tab itself muted. I always had it that opening a video on YouTube and going to another tab muted YouTube's tab.

@mib2berlin I had Play only in Active Tab checked. That may be a default, as I don't think I would have changed the setting. I was always playing in the active tab.
Notice that the developers did not include a mute all audio radio button here. I wonder if they did not to avoid the problem that I had.

@jonasmueller This behavior may be the result of the setting Play Only in Active Tab in the snapshot of tab settings below in the reply of @jonasmueller below.

@DoctorG @northmadison In Windows Mixer you have checked if sound is muted for Vivaldi
I opened Vivaldi to a page with a video, right clicked on the speaker in the Windows 7 system tray, chose open, and the Windows Volume Mixer dialog box opened. I immediately said whoa. I had never seen Vivaldi, or any other program, in a column to the right of system sounds in this box before. This was new. And guess what: the mute icon was indeed on. I checked it off and the sound worked.
I closed Vivaldi and reopened the Volume Mixer dialog box. The column for Vivaldi was gone. I reopened Vivaldi, reopened the Volume Mixer dialog box, and the Vivaldi column was not there. I started a video, reopened the Mixer box, and the Vivaldi column had come back. It looks like the Vivaldi column in that dialog box appears only Vivaldi is playing audio and goes away with Vivaldi.
I checked another Windows computer, which had a recently cloned disk from my computer and on which the sound continued to work, and the Volume Mixer box Vivaldi mute icon was not on.
Somehow between when I cloned that disk and now, less than a week, Vivaldi mute got turned on in a place that I didn't even know existed.
Once again the simplest explanation was right.
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the Windows Mixer behaviour irritated me from the first time i saw it.
Fine, you could solve it. Congrats!
