Vivaldi Browser is Blank
-
Closed Vivaldi, updated the problematic package, deleted the GPUCache, started Vivaldi -- the issue is gone. Thanks.

I have had the same problem on Ubuntu 22. I solved it by disabling hardware acceleration. Since the browser was blank, I did the following:
a) I closed vivaldi.
b) I went to the user directory and made the invisible folders visible (Ctrl+h).
c) I renamed the ./config/Vivaldi/Default directory as Default_B
d) I opened Vivaldi and it recreated it from scratch, losing all my favorites etc. Since I could see everything now, I went to the options menu (V>settings) and disabled acceleration.
e) I closed vivaldi and deleted the Default directory.
f) Rename my Default_B as Default.
g) I opened Vivaldi and... All fixed! Again Vivaldi alive fith all my favorits, and so on. -

@npro said in Vivaldi Browser is Blank:
Well Mint 21 is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS so their is common... here someone suggested to delete the GPUCache folders https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxmint/comments/14wj5ot/comment/jrizwaq/, and was adopted as a solution in this thread https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2348096#p2348096
Basically, a LTS should be really treated as a LTS...
Confirming this worked for me. Just had to remove
~/.config/vivaldi/GPUCache
and things started working again. Ubuntu 22.04.1, very likely there was a graphics driver patch since I update most mornings. -
Yesterday when I logged into Vivaldi I had a "frozen & hobbled" screen.
I am running Linux Mint 21.1 with both a chrome web browser and vivaldi web browser(Comparing the browsers). Had no problem accessing internet using the chrome browser. Vivaldi browser would not work. I removed the Vivaldi browser in order to re-install. I got message upon download advising me to install Vivaldi using the Mint software center. Chrome browser failed in download stating a network error had occurred. (Note: chrome download occurred after multiple clicks of "Enter" key)
Loaded Mint software center and discovered there were two ways to install Vivaldi browser.Vivaldi-stable ( This pkg did not work-same problems)
Vivaldi-snapshat (This pkg did work-restoring my Vivaldi browser and Start-Me)
Now I am back on-line with Vivaldi. -
On Ubuntu 20.04 an update just ran today and now I cannot read anything in my browser. Everything is washed out and there are just colors and patterns.
-
@pauliem That worked on my Ubuntu 22.04 too. I found ~/.config/vivaldi/Default/GPUCache/ and deleted everything under there. Voila, as they say in French!

@fifonik OOPS! only worked once, now trying Nawigators solution (delete original 'Default' & turn off hardware acceleration (does this in fact fall back to GL?)
Worked 3 times in a row, will study start up & performance for a day or so.
Thanks for all your suggestions....Cheers Paulie -
Not a Vivaldi-only, Ubuntu broke other Chromiums, too.
I saw Ubuntu Bug #2026830 "Upgrade will break Chrome" – Confirmed.

Just chiming in: I also had the same problem on Fedora 38. While disable hardware acceleration worked, deleting the GPUCache folder in the Vivaldi profiles also worked. This isn‘t just about Ubuntu.
Thank you all for your help!

On Ubuntu with AMD processor, simply deleting GPUCache doesn't work. You have to disable acceleration (and, in that case, it doesn't matter if the cache has been cleared or not).
-
Same here, Fedora 38, AMD GPU. Vivaldi-stable has been fine until recently. Deleted .config/vivaldi/Default/GPUCache and is now working.
vivaldi-snapshot never showed this problem though.

Does Fedora also had a libllvm15 or llvm-toolchain package update which caused this?
Were any bug reports sent to to Fedora? -
I had this issue come up with the libllvm13 update. I did a Timeshift roll back and blacklisted the update figuring a fix would come along shortly. libllvm15 arrived this morning and the problem is unresolved. I found this thread and here is what I did to fix it:
Open your file browser and find "gpucache" in your /home/,config/vivaldi. I found several scattered about. I closed Vivaldi and I deleted the files in all of them. Restarted Vivaldi and it is working as intended.
If you have deleted the contents of one 'GPUcache' directory and it hasn't worked: Find them all and delete.
Also: This is on a machine using an AMD processor and video card, so the note above that it doesn't work on AMD processors is apparently in error.

Intel i5 and AMD GPU here on Pop!_OS. Deleting GPU Cache folders in ~/.config/vivaldi was adequate for me.
Using the standard .deb package
6.1.3035.204 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
This has happened after a few updates now, both here and on Fedora.

@sisuaika Ubuntu broke a system package a few weeks ago which casued issue on all Chromium related browsers.

Vivaldi was already working fine for me, even with acceleration enabled, but after a new Ubuntu update (on an AMD machine), I had the same problem. I have verified again that with Vivaldi it is not enough to eliminate the GPUCache. Acceleration needs to be disabled. With Chrome, it is enough to eliminate the GpuCache (it works now, without deactivating the acceleration). Therefore, I sense that there is a double problem here: Ubuntu and Vivaldi. Any solution to not have to be wasting all this time so often?
