Vivaldi Browser is Blank
-
Hello Wonderful Vivaldi Folks,
Using Linux Mint v21.1 and when opening my desktop Vivaldi browser, all except two icons show but the rest of the browser is totally blank.
I've ran updates, rebooted and still nothing. Thanks,

@BeingFrey Please check Troubleshooting issues.
Running Wayland or X11?
Does it work with starting in shell:
vivaldi --disable-gpu
If yes, try next:
vivaldi --disable-accelerated-2d-canvas

Hello DoctorG,
Thank you for the suggestion, however that didn't work for me.

Hello again. How do I know whether I'm running Running Wayland or X11?
Thanks again,BeingFrey
-
@BeingFrey Then it is not the GPU driver.
-
Hello DoctorG,
I figured it out...
desktop:~$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

@BeingFrey Please check Troubleshooting issues.
Could be a extension or a broken profile.
Does Vivaldi start in shell with
vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV/"
-
vivialdi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV/"
Shows command not found.
-
@BeingFrey my typo
Try:
vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV/" -
Okay.. I ran that code in the terminal and it opened up a fresh new Vivaldi session that worked. However, when I exited the browser and opened it again, it reverted to the noted issue.
What does this tell you?

How did you open the browser again? With the commaandline vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV/"?
-
No, I used the shortcut icon.
-
@BeingFrey But we want to find the issue, please have parience.
If its starts with vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV/" then your Vivaldi browser profile is broken or a extension causing the issue.
What happens if you run in shell:
vivaldi --disable-extensions
-
@DoctorG said in Vivaldi Browser is Blank:
vivaldi --disable-extensions
Yes, of course. I appreciate your assistance with troubleshooting DoctorG
I ran the code in the terminal and Vivaldi still opened blank.
-
@BeingFrey Oh. Does not work.; next try for a test, run:
vivaldi --use-gl=desktop
-
@DoctorG said in Vivaldi Browser is Blank:
vivaldi --use-gl=desktop
Running that code in the terminal worked!
However, if I exit Vivaldi and use the shortcut icon to open it, pages don't load fully. What are your thoughts?
-
@BeingFrey Looks like some graphics driver issue on your side.
Can be fixed if you start Vivaldi by desktop shortcut:- Create Shortcut to Program
- Select tab "Program"
- In field "Program" select
/usr/bin/vivaldi-stable
- In Field "Arguments" add
--use-gl=desktop %U
- Confirm with "OK"
That is the shortcut you need to start Vivaldi.
Perhaps an other Linux user here in forum can you tell more which internal setting could work without such desktop shortcut.
-
-
@BeingFrey remove the first %U . Then all should be ok, i hope.
-
Updated the desktop shortcut command now and tested good!
Thank you so much for this workaround fix DoctorGWhat have you determined is the issue exactly?
