Same old New Window now opens faster – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 3062.3

@OakdaleFTL A crash when closing a window while multiple profiles are open is a known bug.
VB-98511 - Vivaldi crashes when trying to close one of the profiles
I experienced it myself a few days ago, but it is hard to reproduce. The best way to help is to come up with a good set of steps to get the bug to occur. As in how to take 2 clean profiles that aren't experiencing the crash with window closing and get them to start experiencing the issue. Only then can it be fixed.
While pure speculation, what I think fixed it for me when I was experiencing it was to open a new window in the 2nd profile. I was then able to close windows normally.

Huh! Just tried it: Works for me too. (Still strange, though! )
Thought it might have had something to do with Guest Window glitch... Two fresh profiles created; couldn't recreate before or after trying that.
(The Ghost Guest Window remains after closing both new profiles...)
So: Can't reproduce.

@daniel: Heey, man! Welcome! When did you land here at Vivaldi team?
-
@daniel: hahahahahahahahahah. Yes, it's always hard the first time
-
Would it be possible to add an option to remove the "dropdown icon" from the Vivaldi Menu button? I hate it. So much that I had to change to the other "Menu icon".
-
What's wrong with the fonts in the snapshots lately (I can't pinpoint at what version things have changed)?
Check the screenshots, both Stable (light theme) and Snapshot (dark theme) have the same font settings but still use different fonts. I don't like the font used in the Snapshot, it's too "crisp".
Why are the used fonts different when settings are the same?
EDIT: Using Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3.

@Tealing
Hi, these are webpage fonts, not the UI fonts, you cant change them.
Comic Sans on Linux?I don´t like the drop down menu icon but many user cant even find the Vivaldi menu.
By the way, if you use workspaces you have two of them and nothing is aligned correctly.Tab text is to low, dropdown of workspaces to high, the whole Vivaldi icon is to high, hrm.
Anyway, should such glitches reported to the bug tracker?Cheers, mib

Oh, ok. But why are the fonts different? Stable and snapshot both installed in the same system, different fonts? Chromium/google forcing? So it would mean that these uglier fonts are coming to the stable at some point too.

That's why I proposed that an option to hide it would be great. Keep the default with the dropdown but give an option to hide it. I would like to use the V-icon and not the "hamburger" icon.

Haven't noticed. The very first thing I did when the workspaces feature arrived, I moved the workspaces icon to the address bar.

Haha, I don´i notice they change the font. -

So you have the same font on stable and snapshot, on the same system?! Why is mine different?
EDIT: Or did you mean that you only now noticed?
-
Other Mac users notice, applications icon context menu has Open selection grayed out; Show Package Contents lists — nothing! And Get Info selection doesn't work...???
I've since replaced the package from the Snapshot blog post... Same result.And then there's this:
But:

Yes, top is 6.1, bottom is 6.2 snapshot, UI zoom 110%.
I guess it looks different in Windows, this is on Opensuse Linux: -

I have Linux Mint, same thing here. The new font is bad. It's not "anti-aliased", and the font style of some letters is bad. Why on earth they changed it?
Could Vivaldi team do something about this? Give an option for the user to choose the font(s?) used in the UI?

Though having someone from the Vivaldi Team explaining what portals are, why they are good for opening windows faster, and how they are going to allow addressing long-standing issues and feature requests sure would be nice.
Perhaps making detailed blog post about the subject would be helpful (cc: @daniel, @Ruarí)Hear, hear. Seconded. I would have liked to learn more about this too.

@Tealing
There is an old feature request about but does not have many votes.
To be honest it doesn´t bother me much, I look on the pages most of the times.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24139/choose-fonts-for-gui

Maybe because it hasn't been a bigger problem yet. Thanks for the link!

Ok. I have bookmarks/other panels open all the time, and use them extensively, so the bad font really bothers me. AND, even more when(?) it lands to stable, which I use the most.

@kocho: Thanks! I joined in November 2022. I may be a familiar face to some users; I worked with a lot of the team here at Opera Software back in the day.
-
@hadden89: More or less, yes. Some UI resources can now be shared and reused across windows in a way that wasn’t possible before.
-
@ugly: Confirmed.
VB-98618.VB-98612. Good bug, Ugly. -
@Tealing
I saw you post my image in the feature request, I do not mind but I cant see a big difference to the stable build.
Maybe it depends on UI zoom, system scaling, even the DE on Linux.
Some user like Firefox font render, I don´t, to much blur.You can open a new thread about and if other user confirm it is odd you can make a bug report.
Cheers, mib
