Moving the 'Speed Dial' and 'Mobile Bookmarks' folders
-
Is there any way of moving the 'Speed Dial' and 'Mobile Bookmarks' folders out of the desktop 'Bookmarks Toolbar'?
I still want to be able to access them on the mobile browser (iOS) but don't want their foldere cluttering my toolbar on the desktop. -
@tekguru Hi - just try moving them out of the folder designated as the Bookmarks Bar folder. Use drag & drop or cut/paste.

Note - by default the "root" Bookmarks folder is designated. You can set this in Settings > Bookmarks or by right-clicking a folder in the Bookmarks Panel/Manager.

Thanks for replying. I've ended up deleting the 'Speed Dial' folder, I am expecting it to return though. The Mobile Bookmarks folder can't be dragged out or deleted.
As you say I could choose a new folder and throw all the bookmarks in there but that'd mess up the structure of the exported HTML, and as I export bookmarks to import into other browsers (Safari, et al) that'd cause even more pain.
It looks like this is another issue that Vivaldi need to address with the browser. -
@tekguru Bookmarks management in Vivaldi is more powerful than other browsers, and you can choose what folder to have as your bookmarks bar. I don't use the bookmarks bar at all, I use the panel or the menu to open bookmarks, or just go from the address bar.
You can also set another folder as Speed Dial. In fact you can have several Speed Dial folders.
The Mobile Bookmarks folder can't be dragged out or deleted.
I don't have that folder at all, but if it's in the Root folder, of course it can't be moved another level up.
- Create a new top-level folder named "Bookmarks Bar"
- Move the bookmarks and subfolders you'd like into the folder
- Right-click and choose "Set as bookmarks bar"
- Delete the old "Bookmarks" if you like
It might help if you make a screenshot of how your bookmarks top-level looks and what folder is set as bookmarks bar.

I'll have a play around and see how I go. As I say though I export the bookmarks in HTML and import them into other browsers...
I myself really dislike the bookmarks panel and have actually removed it. I have a number of folders in the bookmarks tool bar and have the sites categorized / organised within those folders. -
@tekguru Trying to manage bookmarks from the bookmarks bar is an exercise in frustration. I'll be happy admit that Vivaldi's bookmarks bar is kind of a mess compared to other browsers - but it does inherit that mess from the broken Chromium implementation.
The difference is that Vivaldi has other, much better ways of managing bookmarks, and not the broken bookmarks bar that so many users seem to think is the only way to manage them.
Vivaldi has a great bookmarks manager, maybe that's what you need?

I'll investigate and see what I can come up with
What I achieve thonugth will need to be viable when exporting bookmarks in HTML format so I can export into Safari and other chromium based browers.
