Solved Metager redirects to a captcha page
-
When using Metager (metager.de) I'm redirected to a captcha page. Also when changing the user-agent in settings.
When I change the user-agent in DevTools or use Firefox, no captcha page is displayed.Simple question: who is responsible, Vivaldi or Metager?
I'm using current 6.1 stable/snapshot on Linux.
-
MetaGer admins have fixed it now.
-
@mottenmouse 6.2.3054.3 Snapshot + 6.1.3035.100 Stable / Windows 11 22H2 & Debian 11 KDE
I checked in developer Tools a request do Metager.de, my Vivaldi has this in Network tab for Request Header:Sec-Ch-Ua: "Not.A/Brand";v="8", "Chromium";v="114", "Google Chrome";v="114" Sec-Ch-Ua-Mobile: ?0 Sec-Ch-Ua-Platform: "Windows" Sec-Fetch-Dest: document Sec-Fetch-Mode: navigate Sec-Fetch-Site: none Sec-Fetch-User: ?1 Upgrade-Insecure-Requests: 1 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/114.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
And i do not get any captcha.

@mottenmouse I your case use latest Vivaldi versions and may be caused by use of VPN/Proxy/Privacy extensions.
At least, please check Troubleshooting issues.
-
@DoctorG Confirmed. But, I wrote: if change the user-string in DevTools --> No captcha.
My problem is: I get a catcha page with normal use -
@mottenmouse I did not tell you to change the user-agent; in developer tools, what is Sec-Ch-Ua: and User-Agent in your case when you visit the page?
And what happens in Guest Window? -
@DoctorG I use the latest versions. No VPN, no extentsions, etc.
Using guest profil:- type metager.de [enter]
- type test [enter]
You will get:
-
@mottenmouse Please open tell:
User-Agent: and Sec-UA-* fields at Settings → Network
-
@DoctorG My settings in Network are:
-
@mottenmouse Same as on my Windows and Mint, Ubuntus, Debians.
-
@mottenmouse said in Metager redirects to a captcha page:
if change the user-string in DevTools --> No captcha.
To which values?
My problem is: I get a catcha page with normal use
Could be a broken browser profile or a extension you use.
-
@DoctorG The request header in DevTools:
if change the user-string in DevTools --> No captcha.
To which values?
Doesn't matter, Chrome windows, Opera windows, ...
Could be a broken browser profile or a extension you use.
I think not. Guest profile, new profile (without changes) and two different installations.
I'm afraid you can't confirm it.
-
Crazy, today i get the capture, too.
On my 6.1.3035.100 Debian 11.7 -
Metager blocks with Captcha if Chrome or Vivaldi on Linux is used.
I try to contact Metager by mail.
//edit: my investigation results:
metager does not want to server to browsers with this user-agent
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/114.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
When i chose in network - network Conditions this UA without word Linux:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/114.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Bad Metager server admins from hell!
