Can't open downloads automatically in new window app
-
Have an App shortcut pinned to my taskbar that I was using and recently the link broke so I uninstalled it and repined it to my task bar. I used to be able to download files there and they would open automatically, however now the do not. Also, since this is in a new window I am unable to open/see the downloads panel and there are no toolbars to customize, so the view is more limited than with the standard web browser view. Is there a way I can get around this and open my downloads automatically? As of now I might as well just have a pinned tab/bookmark because the app is pointless without being able to open the downloads. I like having the pinned app because I can set a refresh for it, it has it's own icon and doesn't get mixed in with my other Vivaldi windows and tabs.

@patman0227 Hi - what App would that be? Hard to diagnose something if there's little info to go on... we don't have a
here
What kinds of files did you expect to open automatically?
There might've been changes to how downloads are handled from web Apps in newer versions. Also, Web Apps are basically all stock Chromium code. So none of Vivaldi's user interface work there. Although you should still be able to press the standard shortcut Ctrl+J to open the downloads manager (not Vivaldi's but Chromium).

Hi @Pathduck, I'm not sure if I'm using the right terminology to be honest. Maybe it's not a app, but just a shortcut. It does show up when going to vivaldi://apps. When I open the shortcut in a new window and download any file type, the downloads window pane doesn't open. When I do the hotkey shortcut, this takes me to a different Vivaldi window and does show my downloads, but I would like to avoid jumping to a different existing Vivaldi window.
The file type is a Citrix ICA Client file (.ica). I know in Chrome there's a download bar at the bottom of the window with a down arrow that you can select always open files of this type (or something along those lines). I don't have the downloads bar when downloading any files, and don't see that option within the downloads pane, but thinking that there may be a similar way to always open file types in Vivaldi, similar to how Chrome operates.
I appreciate any advice! TIA

@patman0227 Again, it would help what app... ?
But like I said, Web Apps are basically just Chromium/Chrome. So none of the Vivaldi UI is there at all, no downloads panel, no settings, nothing except the stock dumb Chromium UI.
So you can press Ctrl+J and it will open the Chromium downloads page in a new Vivaldi tab
(chrome://downloads
basically).I know in Chrome there's a download bar at the bottom of the window with a down arrow
This won't work in Vivaldi, as the download itself is handled by Vivaldi. The Chromium downloads "bar" won't show.
You'll have to press Ctrl+J or open Vivaldi itself to launch the files.
Maybe it's not a app, but just a shortcut.
Depends how you installed the App, if you chose to open as a window or not. Right-click the app in the apps manager to check.
Vivaldi is not really well fit to handle PWAs. It's a Chrome thing basically, a borked/simplified window to handle a single site. Not really meant for anything but the simplest of web browsing. I avoid them like the plague myself.
For more on PWAs, read:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/miscellaneous/progressive-web-apps/My solution would be: Uninstall the app. Use Vivaldi instead. If you want, install a "shortcut" without having it open in a window if you want a nice icon on your desktop that just opens a fully functional Vivaldi tab instead of a broken web app.
