Cannot stop animations in websiters.
-
In Settings / Webages / Image Animation:
Setting it to never or play once does not work.
Animations continue without stopping.
This setting has NO EFFECT whatsoever, but it worked properly in older versions of Vivaldi.
Can you please make this work properly again, and once it does, leave it alone. -
@Regats
Hi, please always add your Vivaldi and OS version and a link to such a page for other user to test this.
If other user can reproduce this you can report it to the bug tracker.
Regressions happen all the time in software, you fix two bugs and add a new feature and break another feature.Cheers, mib

@Regats Those settings still work for me on Windows 10 with
6.0.2979.22
. Test link: https://media.tenor.com/KsT9arUtCXsAAAAd/jaws-shark.gifThe issue you are probably seeing is that GIFs are often actually videos now.
I don't believe it ever worked on videos, but I could be wrong.Here is that same "GIF" above, but it is actually an MP4: https://imgur.com/gallery/TGFyZ7h
Edit: I checked on
4.2.2406.54
and saw the same behavior. The setting works on the GIF and doesn't with the MP4. -
Vivaldi 6.0.2979.15 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
OS Windows 10 Version 21H2 (Build 19044.1288)
JavaScript V8 11.2.214.14Setting: Webpage Animation Once..
Response: Ignored, including your shark gif.

@nomadic
I have had no success pausing any animated gifs.
This website has a number of them, which I find really annoying. Like I said earlier, an older Vivaldi did the trick. This version, and others going back a few months, fail to freeze the animations.

If it works for you, maybe something else is wrong on my end but I have no idea what that might be. -
@Regats It works for me as well. But just to make sure, are you reloading the page after changing the setting? I'm changing it through the images button on the status bar and the setting goes into effect as soon a page is loaded...

There could be a number of things. People have already suggested some things to try and sort it out, but you haven't given them feedback yet, I suggest you try following the Troubleshooting issues guide: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/

@Regats said in Cannot stop animations in websiters.:
If you mean the stuff in the comments - those are videos from (mostly) Giphy, not GIFs.
This can be seen easily by just right-clicking one of them:
Since videos are not images, the "Image Animation" setting has no effect on these.
Instead, set Autoplay (Settings > Privacy & Security > Default Permissions) to block and they should stop playing.
There are other ways to block them from loading, like blocking requests to Giphy when on the site, but this is an advanced topic.
