Solved Downloads panel opens when starting Vivaldi
-
I did some customization on Vivaldi desktop, and now it does some unwanted behavior. When I start Vivaldi, the main side panel opens, which is fine, but right next to it opens the Downloads panel. I don't want this to open automatically, so I have to close it manually every time I start Vivaldi. I know this is not required behavior because id didn't do it when I first installed Vivaldi, and it's not doing it on my laptop when I just installed Vivaldi.
Any idea how to make it stop opening this panel? Thanks for any help

As I mentioned in my last post to pauloaguia, I am not longer experiencing this problem. However, I do not know how to change the status of this thread from "unsolved" so something else.

@tigerdg Are any downloads listed in the Panel?
Settings, Downloads to disable opening of the downloads panel automatically.
-
@Pesala Yes, there was a list of items I had recently downloaded. I went to Settings, Downloads, and unchecked "Display downloads automatically," but it did not prevent the Downloads panel from opening on start. I cleared the downloads list and restarted, but that didn't help, either. So I'm still having the problem. Any other ideas?

@tigerdg It sounds a pain but have you tried resetting all your settings to default and starting over? Maybe it's a glitch related to some setting in the "Panel" settings and not the "Download" settings? Resetting everything to default and then changing your settings one at a time and testing after each might help discover the source of the issue, if you don't mind doing all that work.

Each panels remember the open/close state until next browser start.
Close the download panel before exit. -
Yes, I do that. It does not help. The Downloads panel still opens the next time I start Vivaldi.

@tigerdg
Hi, this is a really strange issue, these are my download settings, the path is a Linux path, this looks different on Windows. You maybe cant think of but Chrome extensions can really produce strange errors in Vivaldi, do you use some?
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Yes, my Downloads settings look just like that. I've tried a few different combinations, but no effect. I use just two extensions, Adblock and Awesome ChatGPT Screenshot & Screen Recorder. I've tried disabling them both, one at a time, but that did not work, either.

If you have left open a tab that was downloading a file, when the browser reopens, the file will download again and that might cause the download panel to reappear.
(However, if that were the case, then you'd see new download files (usually of the form "file", "file (1)", "file (2)", etc.)

@pauloaguia I don't think that was the problem. I say "was," because the problem disappeared as mysteriously as it started. My Vivaldi browser is no longer exhibiting this behavior.
