Default Printer Settings
-
I am used in all the software that I use, that after relaunching it, it proposes the default printer, rather than the last used one. This is not a feature in my opinion, as it disrupts the usage compared to other apps. Would be nice to have at least the choice in the settings.

@lobstoffelo I don't understand what the problem is. Vivaldi remembers the last-used printer, which is surely a good thing, and does not interfere with the default printer used by other applications.
I would normally print to a PDF printer from a web browser, but from my PDF viewer (PDF-XChange Editor) that would be pointless, so I would want that to use a physical printer.

Unfortunately I have to disagree. It is not a good thing for everybody.
- Purpose of default printer is to simplify daily usage and standardise the printer; need of a different printer is probably in more than 90% of the cases an exception for any person;
- It is a mess when you are in a situation like mine, where you may use on an occasional bases a different printer (most obvious case is using the laptop for the home office)
- Default behaviour of all the other software I use, returns to default settings when I restart them;
I print often and a lot from different software, admittingly much less, from a web browser. I end up printing on the wrong machine as I may not pay attention (expecting the default printer like in any other software). Even when I realise my error, I would have to re-print something in order to change the configuration, thus never been done in the end.
I don't mind the "feature" for others, just suggesting that there are other people. I am ready to go away from Vivaldi, just thought I would make the suggestion and give it a chance.

After some research, I found more people not being happy about how the printers are handled (not only in Vivaldi). It's pretty deceitful, especially when for this browser it advertises "Get unrivalled customization options", where so far the features differentiating Vivaldi from other browser, were of little extra value for me personally.

Printer management is worse in non-Desktop Publishing apps on Windows. But that is a old Microsoft problem since decades. We have to live with it.
-
I understand that printer management on Windows can be difficult, especially when dealing with non-Desktop Publishing apps. Unfortunately, this has been an issue with Microsoft products for a long time, so it's something that we just have to accept.

As the printer interface is a Chromium core part, the Vivaldi devs can not change it without much investment of time and money. I guess they will not do this.
-
I think the problem is not recognised. I have not criticised the interface, but the fact that I have no setting by which I want my browser to stop remembering the last used printer (at least after the browser has been re-opened), but instead I want it to use my default browser as defined in my Windows settings, and only when I need to change the printer, to then do so manually.
As per the critics you guys have against Windows: I find in this place completely misplaced as this was neither my question, nor do I think that this would be the place to discuss. My first personal impression was that you wanted to make your solution look better by degrading another one.

FWIW, following article maybe of interest if choice of default printer is dictated by location How to select a printer based on location on Windows 10

@yojimbo274064400 Many thanks. Does this work, considering that by my experience, Vivaldi would first suggest the last used printer when printing?
