This is cross-posting...but I noticed the thread I last replied to was marked "Resolved". Anyway, I'm getting "Please wait for Vivaldi to close."/"Force Startup" 100% of the time on download or "choose a file"/upload, possibly other times, too.
The "Force Startup" dialog locks up the browser, but as soon as I click it, it proceeds to download/upload or whatever else I was doing. So it's not exactly crashing or losing work, just a constant annoyance.
Things I have tried: Creating a Vivaldi profile (for work), uninstalling/reinstalling (through the MS store this last time).
I have one remaining suspect, Outlook PWA. Having to use the desktop client or changing my default browser would be very disappointing. The issue does not occur in relation to the PWA itself, (it does not occur when popping out windows or anything).

@mkmjedu Time consuming processes like Vivaldi Mail, Sync, saving histroy etc. kann take some seconds. Or extensions causeing such delays. In rare cases internet-security/antivirus programs.
Workaround:
Open chrome://settings/system/
Disable "Continue running background apps when Vivaldi is closed"
Restart -
@DoctorG : Thank you, thank you! I appreciate the explanation, and did see the fix/workaround higher up, but I failed to restart (incl. the PWA)....
This is such a relief....

Maybe spoke too soon--the behavior returned when opening a PDF (already downloaded)....

Hi there,
I had a similar issue by downloading something. A message poped up with this the message please wait for vivaldi to close.
I followed the instruction be switching of Run apps in the background when Vivaldi is closed, but it didn't help.
But I tested the next button and disabled Hardware Acceleration in Settings and it helped.Maybe for interest for someone!
Cheers
