Download a copy of an email folder from Vivaldi mail client
-
Hi,
I was not able to find any information about this,
I would like to take an offline backup of all my archived emails/one of the folders which I have sorted old emails into using Vivaldi Mail (the browser extension/client, not the online email service).I understand how to find the storage folder of all emails in windows, but these are sorted by year and date.
Is it possible to "download" selected emails/make an offline copy of emails sorted into a specific folder?
Otherwise, is this a feature that is likely to be implemented? I guess it is unlikely to have emails disappear from Google etc., but it would be very useful if possible to for instance be able to sort all old emails of a specific type in to a specific folder that could be stored some other place offline etc.Thanks for any help !

@Shanshorshe welcome to the forum!
Vivaldi does not yet support exporting emails, I'm pretty darn sure that this will be added sooner or later as the client keeps maturing.
If you use IMAP and your folders are mirrored on the IMAP server, you can just use another email client that does support exporting emails from specific folders, set up the account in that other email client, sync to the server / download the mails to the other client and export. I guess Thunderbird can do this but I struggle with the interface, so I would suggest to do this with Opera 12's integrated Mail client which is Vivaldi's predecessor in spe, and so the interfaces are fairly similiar which helps.
To set up Opera 12....
Download from
Windows (Opera 12.18): https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1218/en/
Mac (Opera 12.16): https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera/mac/1216/
Linux (Opera 12.16): https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/1216/Do NOT use the browser component to browse the internet, they have not received security updates for a decade. It's still totally safe to use mail.
To set up an IMAP account in Opera Mail, see these steps: https://www.platon.net/support/e-mails/operamail-imaps-setup with the server details provided by your provider. Note that the initial setup wizard does not give you the option to adjust the port settings. Additionally to the steps in that tutorial, while adjusting the account properties you'll also have to go to the 'Incoming' tab and make sure to download all messages for offline use
Make sure your setup also downloads the special folder you want to export by going to the account in the panel, click the gear icon which appears when you hover over the account name and choose 'IMAP folders'
At this point your emails should be in sync between Opera Mail and Vivaldi mail.
Now all you need to do is right-click the folder containing the emails you want to export and choose "export". A file dialog will open where you can set the location and file name of a .mbs file that you want to export. This will be one single mbox formatted file containing all emails in that folder in plain text.
