Mouse right-click series of issues
-
For probably a year, I've experienced a series of mouse right-click issues with Vivaldi on MX Linux (MX Linux is based on Debian Stable; Vivaldi is installed and maintained through the package manager--there are recent releases in the repo, maintained by the system). The issues are replicated on multiple computers, and do not occur with other software or browsers, e.g., Firefox. The issues are not related to browser extensions, cache, etc. The computer hardware is generic and the distro plain vanilla--no special drivers or unusual software.
Until a package update about a day ago, right-click failed only when in a private window. Right-click would do nothing, and menu selections from the top bar menu also wouldn't work. But the behavior was flaky. Right-click would virtually never work upon opening a private window, but occasionally, it would start working for no apparent reason after restarting the private window numerous times or opening and closing tabs in it for awhile. It reliably did not work, but fixing itself was random and not reproducible.
Vivaldi was updated a day or two ago to v6.0.2979.11 and again today to v6.0.2979.15. The right-click issue in private windows appears to be fixed, but the new releases introduced a new right-click issue. It now doesn't work with nested speed dials on the Vivaldi start page in either a normal or private window. It works with top-level selections (a dedicated dial), but not selections nested in a start menu folder. Right-clicking on a nested speed dial selection (e.g., for "Open in New Tab" or "Open in Background Tab"), does produce the context menu, but selecting options in the context menu has no effect.
The result is that you cannot go into a speed dial folder and open multiple selections. For each selection you want open, you must create a new tab, and from that new tab, navigate into the speed dial folder and open one selection.
Update: more flaky behavior. Although nothing has changed on my system, right-click on a nested speed dial has started working in a normal window, but still does not work in a private window.

@fixer1234 Seems like https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/84424/can-t-open-speed-dial-to-new-background-tab/21?_=1681725089030
I filled VB-96691 about context menu on Speed Dial on Linux and, later, I found the same issue on Windows.

@fixer1234 If you talk about context menu, some AMD graphics drivers cause trouble, sometimes XOrg is better than Wayland backend, sometimes vivaldi://flags settings could solve issues.
-
I don't think it's about drivers: I'm using both Intel and Nvidia on my computers.
First time I encountered the issue was about 2 months ago (and I'm using "Open All Bookmarks" and "Open in New/Background Tab" menu entries all the time). -
@stilgarwolf Ah, ok, i misunderstood that the context menu dis not appear.
An issue with broken context menu entries for opening tabs from Speed Dial is known.

sorry but i do not understand:

i had not heard of this alleged bug, so just now i tested my own speeddial. context menu items
open in new tab
,open in background tab
andopen
each reliably work just fine for me.Spoiler
@fixer1234 -- does the symptom also occur in a clean profile, and with default chromium flags?
-
@stilgarwolf VB-96691 Confirmed.
Strangeness did not alwys happen on my Debian 11. -
@ybjrepnfr It's possible the flaky behavior is related to profile corruption, which seems to happen regularly with site login data. It sounds like the right-click problem has been replicated. Is the example you show on your system a dedicated speed dial or a speed dial nested in a speed dial folder, and is it in a regular window or a private window? At least on my system, what isn't working at this point is limited to private windows, and speed dials nested in a speed dial folder.
Update: Just tested a clean profile. The issue is the same.
Update 2: No changes to anything (other than rebooting), but right-click stopped working again in a regular window. Opening another start page and closing the non-working one has no effect.

Yes, the Vivaldi context menu is screwed up for me using Wayland on Ubuntu 23.04. Some examples are the context menu for: Workspaces in the dropdown Workspace list; URLs in the search bar. Evoking the context menu using content of a page will normally work as expected.
There does seem to be a workaround, which involves some finger dexterity. Using my Framework trackpad I find that two-finger tapping on the target creates a highlight but not the expected context menu. However, if I move a single finger slightly across the highlight in an easterly direction, the context menu will usually appear. If this doesn't evoke the context menu, following up by moving my finger slightly westwards will probably bring it up.
